Boruto and Sarada dashed through the Village of the Hidden Mist. They didn't have much time. And in that short amount of time, there was a mountain of things that had to be done.

"Roll call is at 10:00," said Sarada. "I've thought about it... In order to get back in time, we have to finish up this 'fight' by 9:00. Do you really think we can pull this off?"

There was no doubt in her mind that Boruto would answer with "we can." But she had to hear him say it of his own volition. Especially now that they weren't in front of the Mizukage. Hearing him say it would quell the unrest in her heart.

But when Boruto finally answered, it wasn't exactly what Sarada was hoping to hear.

"...We've got no choice."

"Have you seriously not calculated anything?!"

Boruto continued running silently through the night.

An involuntary gasp escaped Sarada's lips. Because he was her childhood friend, she knew. Boruto always looked at situations objectively and chose the best course of action. To put it simply, Boruto just hated working hard, so he was prone to finding the easiest way out. The way that required him to put in the least amount of effort.

But apparently, sometimes even Boruto actually had to get his hands dirty and try. This was something he couldn't give up on.

And it was at that moment Sarada realized, the only way to resolve this situation was to throw themselves in head first. Even Boruto, who had magically gotten out of several troublesome situations in the past, wasn't able to worm his way out of this one with a simple excuse or a little finagling.

Now that she thought about it, it was the same when he challenged Iwabe right after their enrollment in the academy.

The Seven Ninja Swordsmen were powerful... It would be difficult to bring Kagura back from the clutches of Hoshigaki Shizuma.

Rather than answering Sarada, Boruto continued to run straight ahead, his gaze unwavering. There was no sign of fear or hesitation in his expression. He was probably calculating a way to make everything work. To save Kagura and put a safe end to the school trip.

Well... I guess it's fine.

After all, it was a rare sight to see Boruto hard at work. Because he could do anything with ease, he never took anything seriously. He just wasted his time and talent, and to Sarada, that was incredibly frustrating. She'd take this side of him over the lazy genius any day.

On the same token, perhaps Boruto was too smart to fit in with a completely peaceful society. He was similar to Shizuma in that respect, albeit, in a completely different manner. But to Sarada, the idea of a world filled with war just wasn't imaginable.

Now satisfied with Boruto's response to her previous question, she decided to throw him another. "I didn't expect you to use the Seventh as a crutch back there."

More than a question, it was an observation. But regardless, she still was curious as to why he decided to take that route when persuading the Mizukage.

Boruto just snorted in response. "Ha, isn't it obvious that I hated it so much I wished I could die?"

As she ran, she stared at his serious profile.

"But... That would have meant Kagura's death."

Despite being a child, he still had his pride. His own way of thinking. Adults might laugh and consider him foolish, but even if he was immature, Boruto worked hard to acquire his current identity. No matter how ridiculous it seemed, discarding his pride was the same as cutting off a part of himself. It wasn't something that could easily be done.

But sometimes, that pride and those held beliefs could get in the way of fulfilling the things that were truly important to him. Even adults struggle to put their pride behind them for the greater good.

But to Boruto, this situation with Kagura was something worth throwing away his title for. It was worth becoming nothing more than "the Hokage's son." Even though it'd barely been a day since they met. To be precise, it'd been about a day and a half.

But to Boruto, it probably didn't matter how long it'd been. It didn't make a difference whether it was Shikadai, Denki, Sumire or Mitsuki. If he thought of the person as a friend, just once, he couldn't overlook any misfortunate incident. And he'd do anything to reverse what had been done to them.

This even involved overlooking his complicated relationship with his father. His most unshakable complex.

And that was something [a personality trait] that Sarada wished more than anything that she could have for herself...
