Note: This is a Ver with child reader one-shot.
(I did not feel comfortable using Ver x Child!Reader)

"I won't hurt you," Ver extended his arm into a small tight opening. He hears whimpering from the end but was unable to reach in due to his body stopping him until his shoulder.
During his watch duty in another area, he was approached by his friend Doppio who told him the situation which led him to this.
Doppio told Ver he was afraid of scaring the little child he found hiding from him (it didn't help when he told Ver he chased the kid down).
It then leads him to this..
Ver backed away from the alley and softly smiled. "I promise I won't hurt you," His voice was gentle, it was reassuring.
"Is the big, tall, scary man gone?"
Ver almost laughed. Is that what she calls Doppio?
"Yes, the scary man is gone."
After a few moments, the girl emerged from the alley and looked around. Ver didn't lie which made her feel relieved.
Judging by the state the girl was in, he could tell she was an orphan and homeless. The clothes she had on was tattered, ripped and old. It even showed the badge of the orphanage she was once in. Her hair was messy and she looked like she hasn't showered for what seemed like months.
"What's your name? How old are you?"
"I can't talk to strangers.."
Ver titled his head in confusion. "Who told you that?"
"..." The girl didn't say a word. Ver's eyes then caught a glimpse of what she was holding.
He crouched down to ask her. "Is that a paper doll behind you?"
His assuming words made the little girl pout in anger. "It's a shikigami! It was gift from Mister Yami-" She stopped herself by covering her own mouth.
Ver knew who she was talking about but pushed her no further.
"My name is Ver. Can you tell me yours now?"
The little girl hesitated. "My name is Y/n. I'm.. this years old," She showed seven of her fingers.
"Alright Y/n, can you tell me if you have a place to stay in?"
Y/n looked down to the ground and fiddled with her shikigami. "..I sleep everywhere,"
Ver frowned at her answer. He pointed at the logo on her dress coat. "What's that?"
"Mister Yamino gave it for me. This was his."
"I see.." He then offered her to stay with him and tells her all the things she could have and do under his care. Surprisingly, Y/n hesitated and lectured him that speaking like that might make him sound like a kidnapper but nonetheless she agreed.
The lecture given by the seven year old made Ver amazed at her knowledge.

Y/n twisted the doorknob and pushes the door open. Ver was sound asleep in his bed but he woke up as soon as the light from the hallway shone on his face.
"Y/n? Is there something bothering you? Ah!" Ver was surprised to see Y/n was next to his bed, it made him wide awake.
"I can't sleep, this place is new to me so I'm scared."
Ver gave the girl a gentle smile. "Come here, I'll sing you a lullaby." Y/n did as told and laid on his side, Ver began to hum whilst patting the back of her head.
"Trapped in an angel's cage
Lies my dearest child,
A warm breeze awaits us
In our small house in my dreams.
Following the distant light
You disappear,
Follow the birds there
Towards the promised Neverland."
Little Y/n yawned, feeling the comfort in Ver's hold, he noticed she was fast asleep making the male look at her softly.
He placed a kiss on her head and tucked himself to bed too, singing the last line to the first half of his lullaby. "Fly."
"Go, even if the night sky falls. Vain eyes that hid the truth. To remain on a world made of lies, so trap yourself in a fantasy and flap your wings."
"You did a great job raising her," Hex complimented his senior.
Ver said no words but smiled, paying attention to the girl he raised for thirteen years. "I'm proud of her." He whispered.
There Y/n stood on a stage all by herself, singing the lullaby Ver used to sing for her every time to soothe her from fear or anxiety. "My dear child, don't forget my song, in that dream.."
Ver smiled, crying without notice. "Forever."

A/n: I actually cried at this because I imagined the transition from Ver singing the lullaby to little Y/n and then fast forward she's a twenty year old singer now who still remembers the lullaby 🥺
