A knock on the door has us all freezing with our forks halfway to our mouths.
"Hello!" A girl's voice cries out, "Jackie pie!"
Jack knocks his chair back as he rushes to get the door. Matt and I watch as he removes the wood barrier and throws open the door, I think it's a dumb move but whatever.
The blonde bimbo at the door is not Renae, "Who the fuck is this?" I ask.
The blonde rounds on me, I see her nose is bleeding. "Um Jack get her out of here." I say. Grabbing my kitchen knife.
He sees what I'm talking about and pushes her outside shutting the door behind him. "Lexi, what are you doing here? And what happened to you?"
Through the window she flips her hair over her shoulder, "I missed you silly. After my parents woke up, my mom bit me before I ran out of there. I ran the whole way here. As it turns out a lot of people that fell asleep yesterday are awake and cranky." She rambles.
Jack takes a step back to the door, "You can't come in. You are infected." Blood is now dripping from her eyes.
She laughs, "So what I'll just fall asleep."
Matt lunges at the door and pulls Jack through barricading it. "Dude, she was bleeding."
We hear her pounding on the door, and after five minutes she collapses. "Well, whoever she is she's dead now." I say.
Matt glares at me, "Don't be a brat."
I roll my eyes, "Maybe you have a point in leaving."
Jack shakes himself out. "Okay a backpack full of clothes, toiletries, whatever you need. Then the camping gear and food."
Matt nods heading for the camping gear we picked up yesterday. Two tents, three new sleeping bags, a camp stove, its propane, and a bag with pots and utensils. I sigh, finishing my breakfast then I rush up the stairs. I pack two pairs of jeans, a tank and a long sleeve shirt. Then I grab a big winter coat and a rain slicker shoving everything into my old high school backpack. I grab my box of tampons, and a hairbrush. Nothing else fits in the backpack, I groan, damn. Though once we find a place, we can always stock it.
I throw my back into the back seat of the minivan, then help load every nonperishable food, and what we can eat of the perishable. "I think I have everything." I tell Matt.
"I grabbed your dad's clothes, I hope that doesn't offend you."
"They are there, I guess it's fine. Not like Jack's would fit you anyway."
He chuckles, "Not unless you want me to be in shorts all the time."
"No, I know it's warm down here but it's about to be the rainy season for Colorado." I tell him.
"I know." He smirks, "Jack you ready?"
Jack trots down the stairs bag over his shoulder, "Let me check the house one more time." He says.
I run upstairs and grab a few books off my shelf, just in case, then hide them under my seat. Which is the only space available to put them in the packed minivan.
"Load up." Matt calls. He spanks my ass as I get in my seat.
"None of that right around me, okay?" Jack grumbles, "I need to find a chick if we're going to be holed up in the mountains hiding for who knows how long."
I giggle, "Maybe we'll find someone along the way."
