Chapter 4

First person, Katara's perspective

*Sokka is 7 and Katara is 6*

It seems my life has turned into trying. Trying, trying, trying, and trying to no avail. Trying to make a life. Since Dad left, it's been Gram-gram, Sokka, and I managing the household. And let's be real, Sokka and Gram-gram only contribute so much. Sokka chooses not to because he is a 'big strong warrior who has no time for chores' but Gram-gram struggles to because of her age.

There is no one in my tribe around my age except Sokka, who just wants to be a warrior. No one to socialize with except Gram-gram, nothing to do but chores.

Month after month this became more and more true. When I went outside my attempts at making friends and showing people I care came across as 'motherly' which was expected from a kid who spends all their time with their Grandma and 'likes' to do chores.

Helplessly, I watched myself relate less and less to kids and more and more to the adult women of the tribe. I was metaphorically strong-armed to the 'big-girl' table.

Although I mourned the premature death of my childhood wonder and freedom, I also enjoyed taking care of those I love. It creates a feeling only those who have experienced it could possibly understand.

A/N sorry it's very short and very 'cringy'

Bye bye.
