Chapter 7

First person, Percy's perspective

*Percy is 10*

It had been 2 years since I had arrived at Piandao's. In those two years I had managed to break Piandao's rough exterior and learned of his ginormous heart. It took no amount of breaking, however, to learn of Fat's, he showed a kind of affection I scarcely remember receiving before, that of a parent's love.

For the first time in a long time, I was living in a place where the inhabitants truly care about me and show it, even in the albeit unconventional ways of Piandao.

Piandao showed his love through training, at first his training was like how I have learned he does with all his pupils, but as we bonded and he learned who I was and about my past, the training became more and more rigorous. After the training, Fat would give me lessons because he knew I had no formal education and was almost completely illiterate. Fat was also the one to bandage me up and bake me cookies if I ever got hurt.

Piandao had many pupils come and go, but, strangely enough, they never questioned why I was there. I asked one why and they said that we very obviously are related because we treat each other like family.

It is still one of my favorite points of my life.

And that's why it hurt so much when it came to an end.

A letter had come from Iroh, we got regular correspondence from him so we assumed this letter would be like the others.

It was not.

Dear Piandao,

I hope you are having a great day! I would love to hear about the goings on in your house. Remember you and everyone around you are wanted at the palace if you want to visit.

I'm sorry to say this, but because of the water shortage we have been experiencing, you might have to give up your fountains.

Hope you've had fun with water, don't let it keep running.

We flipped the letter over to see the return address.

It was not the royal palace.

They all knew what this letter meant, the grave warning hidden behind the kind correspondence.

They also knew that this letter meant goodbye. That is why, even though we might call it "cheesy" or even "cringey", they all burst into tears. Even through his loud sobs, Fat managed to help me pack. As tears fell down his face, Piandao gave me instructions on how to get to my destination. This voyage will be much longer and more difficult than the last.

A/N another chapter will take a week or more because I'm going out of town.

It's my dog's birthday! He turned 1, my baby's grown up :')
