Those stupid screams.

"Why don't you just shut up?!" She snaps, glaring in the direction of the lanky figure.

The figure watches her in amusement with his lack of a face. It's really just a blank canvas. He's a shadow, perfectly fit to creep into her thoughts at night. "Me? I'm not the cause of those."

"Yes you are! You bring the screams with you every time you come! Those stupid shrieks of pain make them stop!" She begs, her voice becoming more and more desperate with each tortured yelp that resounds through her mind.

"Unfortunately I don't have the power to do that. I'm a reminder of your past. There are things you need to remember that you are forgetting. That's no good."

"And why is it bad that I'm forgetting?"

"Because you'll never find peace if you continue like this. Shoving your darkest memories where no one can see them. Stop doing that."

As his voice grows dark she freezes, not used to the creature's malicious side. It frightens her but she nods slowly. There's a valuable lesson hidden in his words and she'd be wise to listen to it.

"Whether you believe it or not, I'm here to protect you. You and your memories. And right now, that means reminding you of things you can learn from."
