Chapter Nine

Jackie’s pov

When I wake up I go through my normal school routine, I brush my teeth, get dressed and stand in the kitchen until it’s time to go to school. I stand near the fridge and watch everyone eat there breakfast

“Aren’t you having anything to eat Jackie?” someone says, I look up and see that it’s Alec’s dad that is talking to me.

“I-I’m not hungry” I lie to be honest I’m starving but I don’t like to eat in front of my parents, it just gives them more things to taunt me about.

“Did you and Jackie finish your homework yesterday Alec?” my dad asks him

“Yes sir, would you like to look?” he asks and my dad nods

“Okay” he says and pulls his laptop out, what is he doing? He puts a disc into the laptop and my voice starts singing

“That’s good, who’s singing?” my mum asks

“Jackie” Alec says simply

“WHAT?!” my parents both shout at the same time

“It was Jackie singing” Alec’s tells them

“But Jackie can’t sing” my mum says shocked

“She can” Alec says and I fight the urge to laugh

“How come we didn’t know about this?” dad asks glaring at me

“Because the only time you talk to her is when your being horrible and calling her sh*t” Alec says looking at the clock boredly

“EXCUSE ME?!” my dad shouts

“You’re excused” Alec says smirking

“Why you little…” dad starts to say but Alec cuts him off

“Oh look at the time, come on Jackie time for school.” He says grabbing my arm and dragging me to the door.

“I can’t b-believe you just d-did that” I say shocked

“Did what?” he asks

“You stood up to my parents” I say in disbelief

“Well someone needed to” he states

“I know b-but he could h-have hit you” I tell him and he shrugs

“I been hit by worse” he say nonchalantly

“R-really?” I ask

“Yep” he says and we carry on walking in silence “Oh yeah I finished the disc, as you saw at breakfast, but I was thinking that if we add music to the background it would sound even better, what do you think?” he asks

“Sounds g-good” I tell him honestly

“Great” he says, and then starts talking about his laptop, I drown out the convocation because it’s pretty boring “Are you even listening to me?” he says

“What?” I ask

“I said are you even listening to me?” he repeats

“Um…N-no sorry” I say smiling sheepishly which makes him laugh

“Was it really that boring?” he asks

“Yes” I answer honestly

“Really?” he asks and I nod “Oh well” he says and I laugh, by now we have already reached school and are standing next to my locker and the bell starts to ring

“Come on l-lets go” I tell him and we walk down the hall and into the classroom.

“But it’s boring!” he whines and I laugh at his childishness

“It’s school w-what do you e-expect?” I ask

“I don’t know but I was hoping it would be better than this” he says

“Well it isn’t s-so suck it u-up” I say and he sticks his tongue out at me “What a-are you four?” I ask sarcastically

“Nope I’m five actually, I’m a big boy!” he shouts making me roll my eyes

“S-so immature” I say teasingly, I have just realised that this is the first time that I’ve been sat in registration without being scared, in fact I’m doing the opposite i am sat here joking about with Alec. What is this boy doing to me?

“Who’s that girl that’s staring at us?” Alec asks and I look in the direction he’s looking, sat there is a girl with blond hair that I’ve never seen before

“I-I don’t know” I say honestly

“She looks kind of lonely” he says

“Why d-don’t you invite her to sit with us?” I asks and he nods

“Okay” he says before walking over to her, I see them talking and watch her stand up and walk over to me

“Hi” she says shyly

“H-hello” I reply

“You have a stutter?” she asks

“Um… y-yes” I say looking at the table

“My brother does too” she says smiling

“Really?” I ask and she nods “Cool” I say smiling back

“I’m Alaya by the way” she says

“Oh I’m J-Jackie” I say

“You forgot to introduce me” Alec says

“Oh and t-this is my f-friend Alec” I tell her

“Nice to meet you both” she says sweetly

“You too” Alec says and I nod

“Are you n-new?” I ask

“Yes, I started school this morning” she explains

“I started yesterday” Alec tells her

“Cool so were both newbies” she says grinning

“Yep” he says

Would it be okay if I stay with you guys today? I would love to be friends” she says

“Um… its u-up to you b-but most people in s-school don’t like me s-so they might say stuff to y-you” I say

“Why don’t they like you?” she asks and I shrug

“I don’t k-know” I admit

“Well there idiots, what’s not to like about you? Your pretty, sweet and you seem like an amazing person” she says and I grin widely “So can we be friends?” she asks

“Yes!” I say excitedly

And that is how I got the two most amazing friends I could have ever wished for.
