Chapter Three

Jackie’s pov

After Alec left me I was back to sitting in the corner in silence, I wonder why he even wanted to talk to me? No one else ever does they just think I’m a freak and stay away from me. I know it’s weird that I’ve never had a friend but for some reason no one ever likes me and I don’t even know why. I’ve tried to think of a reason to why they all hate me but I never find one, I don’t know why my parents hate me either. I sigh and stand up there’s no point in sitting here trying to figure out something I don’t know the answer too, I walk to the stairs slowly. I know this is risky but if I sneak out of the basement I can run out of the house, I’ve done this before

*Flashback*

“Jackie!” dad shouts

“Y-yes?” I ask

“Why do you think you can skip lessons?!” he shouts and I flinch

“I-I didn’t mean t-to” I say in a shaky voice

“What do you mean you didn’t mean to!? You can’t accidently skip classes!” he screams I know that I’m making him angry but it really wasn’t my fault

“I g-got stuck in t-the toilets” I say quietly

“Of course you did” he says sarcastically

“I-I did” I tell him

“Don’t you dare lie to me! I know you ditched there’s no point in lying you stupid freak!” he screams and walks towards me

“I’m n-not lying I-I didn’t ditch” I say

“You little liar!” he says hitting me across, I knew that if I stayed there he would do worse so I ran past him and into my room. I placed the draws in front of the door and ran to the window, hopefully no one will notice me jumping out of the window, as I hit floor I quickly jump up and sprint down the road.

*End of flashback*

I open the basement door and look around, yes! They’ve gone out! Must have gone to show Alec and his dad around town. I walk out of the back door and walk into the tree’s that surround our house, I love it out here! These trees are where I run off to if I’ve had a really bad day. I walk over to my favourite tree, it’s a huge oak, and start climbing up the side when I hear voices. Crap! Is my first thought as I hear them, the voices get closer and I pull my legs closer to me on the branch hoping that whoever it is won’t notice me, I’m not nosy but I can’t help overhearing there conversation

“I can’t believe were living there dad!” a male voice says

“I know and I’m sorry! I didn’t expect them to be like that, when I first met them they were really nice people” another male voice answers

“Well they don’t seem to act very nice to their daughter!” the first voice says

“I know! But like I said I didn’t know that they were like that” the boys dad says

“We should do something about it” the boy says

“Alec what could we possibly do to stop it?” the dad asks

“I don’t know dad but we can’t let them treat her like that! She was locked in the basement for god sakes!” Alec says oh crap its Alec and his dad and there talking about me!

“I’ll see what I can do okay? I’ll tell them to back off a bit that’s the best I can do” Alec’s dad says

“Thanks dad” Alec says smiling

“Come on we should get back” his dad says

“You can I’m going to stay out here for a bit” Alec says

“See you later then” his dad says and walks off, Alec just stands there a bit before he looks around, I hold my breath and hope he doesn’t see me but of course that doesn’t work

 “Is someone up there? Hello?” he says and all I think is oh crap…
