Chapter Sixteen

Jackie's pov

I've been staying at Alaya's house for a couple of weeks now and even though I still can't remember much I love it! Her mum is amazing; she treats me like I'm her real daughter and not just a guest that's been living at their house. The best part about it all is that when Mrs Jones noticed my stutter she took me to a speech therapist and helped me out a lot, even though I don't stutter as much as I used to it still happens. I'm just happy I can have a normal conversation and everyone understands what I'm saying. The bad news is now I'm feeling better, and I've nearly finished all my speech therapy sessions, I have to go back to school. I'd be lying if I say I'm not scared, I guess I'm nervous because I don't know what to expect, yeah I've been to school before but I can't remember anything that happened while I was there. Sometimes this memory loss really annoys me but at other times I'm really glad I can't remember what people did to me.

I'm in my room getting ready for school when Alaya walks in squealing.

"Guess what today is!" she squeals

"I don't know what?" I ask looking at her with a confused expression

"It's your birthday!" she shouts

"Wow really?" I ask and she nods "I didn't even know" I say shaking my head

"Don't worry about it, now come on you have to go open your presents!" she yells pulling me out of my room and down the stairs. I walk into the living room and everyone shouts 'Happy Birthday!' that's when I notice that Alec is here. Things have been really good between us lately and we've gotten really close.

"You h-have to open your presents!" Alaya's little brother Jason shouts jumping up and down. Me and Jason have this weird connection, I love the little guy! When I first moved in here he wouldn't leave me alone and said that we were best friends because I stutter too

"Okay, okay" I say rolling my eyes, Mrs Jones stands up and walks over to me with a little box in her hand

"Here you go love" she say smiling warmly, I take the gift out of her hand and take the lid off. I gasp as I see bright red phone

"Oh my god" I whisper and look over at Mrs J "T-thank you" I say stuttering

"It's okay sweetie" she says grinning

"Mine next!" Alaya shouts passing my a green gift bag, I look inside and see a picture frame with a picture of me, Alec, Jason and her in it

"I love it" I say feeling tears in my eyes

"Don't cry! She didn't mean to make you upset!" Jason says trying to make me feel better, I smile at him and he looks confused

"I'm not sad, they were happy tears Jay" I tell him using the nickname we made

"Oh" he says giggling

"Open mine?" Jay asks sweetly

"Okay" I say and he passes me a little box, I open the box and find a bracelet there's a charm on it that says 'best' I look at Jason and he rolls his sleeve up to reveal a bracelet the same as mine but his charm says 'friends' I smile widely and pull him into a hug

"Sorry guys but I think Jason got me the best present" I say and Jason grins

"But you haven't even seen mine yet" Alec says

"Fine let me look" I say smiling, he passes me a box wrapped in green and yellow wrapping paper, I open the box and gasp

"Whaa... um...Huh?" I say and everyone laughs

"Do you like it?" he asks and I nod frantically, not trusting myself to speak "Thank god" he mutters and I let out a giggle

"Thank y-you all" I say feeling tears in my eyes

"That's not all" Mrs J says and i look at her confused "I got your adoption papers and they've been approved, your officially part of this family now!" She says excitedly and Alaya grins widely

"Wow" I say shocked, I jump up and give everyone a hug "This is the best day of my life" I say honestly

"And it's only just started" Alec says and I laugh

"You ready for your first day back at school?" Mrs J asks

"I'm not sure Mrs..." I start but she cuts me off

"Call me Tami, I am your foster mum after all" she says smirking and I nod

"Okay then, well not really I'm pretty nervous" I tell her honestly

"Don't worry I'm sure you'll be fine and if they say anything... kick there arses like I showed you" she says with a wink and Alec bursts out laughing

"Okay will do" I say and Alaya pulls me out of the door

"Let me give you a tip" she says and I nod "When someone says something bad to you don't stay quiet, talk back and make sure it sounds harsh okay?" she says

"Okay" I agree. We all climb in to A's car and she drives off.

We arrive at school and Alaya parks in her usual spot, as I step out of the car I get some weird looks but I just ignore them and carry on walking.

"Ew! Why are you here?!" a high pitch voice, who I instantly recognised as Natasha, asks

"Well its school, why did I come here again?... Oh that's right I came to learn dumbass" I say and I hear a few gasps

"How dare you? Who do you think you are?!" she screeches and I laugh

"Jackie, Jackie Jones" I say smiling at Alaya, she grins back liking the fact that I used her last name as my own

"YOU STUPID LITTLE..." she starts to scream but I cut her off

"Stupid little what? Slut?" I ask and she nods "I think you need to take a look in the mirror, you're the only slut here" I say and her eyes widen, I watch her raise her hand and I freeze. I close my eyes and wait for the hit but it doesn't come, instead, when I open my eyes I see a pissed looking Alaya holding Natasha's arm

"Don't touch her!" she spits out before pushing Natasha to the floor. Everyone in the parking lot laughs at Natasha and she stands and runs into school.

"Are you okay?" Alec asks looking worried

"I'm fine!" I beam, I can't believe I just stood up for myself

"That was amazing!" he says

"Thanks" I blush

"I always knew you could do it" he says smiling softly, my cheeks turn an even brighter shade of red and I look at the floor. Today is going to be a long day...
