The pair arrived at the skatepark to see one parent watching their child skate. Ethan pulled Maria along to a flat part so she could show him her non-existent moves. She held onto his hands as he helped her keep balance. He tried slipping his hands down to her waist, however she instantly pushed him away causing him to smirk.
"Watch me!" She called out to him. He pointed to his eyes with two fingers then pointing to hers, walking to a nearby bench. She took off on the skateboard, quickly getting the hang of it before doing a perfect. Ollie. Ethan's jaw hung loose at the sight.
"I did it!" Maria raised her hand in triumph. Ethan picked her up by the waist, spinning her in a circle before letting her down. Maria's hands stay on his shoulders, her eyes staring into his. They stood like that for a minute before Ethan ruined the silence by speaking up.
"Like what you see?" Ethan smirked, taking her from her daze. She immediately stepped away with a scoff.
"In your wildest and I mean WIlDest dreams" Maria crossed her arms. Ethan only smiles and steps closer to her.
"Well it looks to me that you're having some pretty dirty thoughts in your head about us" Ethan's smirk only grew wider as Maria hid her face in embarrassment.

Maria sat comfortably on her bed, laptop in front of her as she awaited a very important email when her phone suddenly goes off. She picks up the phone and as she reads the name she instantly picks it up in a panic.
"Dad?" Maria was definitely confused. Her father wasn't supposed to be released out of prison yet. He had already used his first call when he first got there.
"Heyyy sweetie" her dad replied, his voice sounding jagged as if he had just gone for a run.
"How are you calling me?" Her brain felt fuzzy as she thought of all the possible ways he could be calling her right now.
For backup information, he lost one of his role models in a fire, watching him perish right in front of his eyes. Afterwards he thought his only solution was alcohol and crack. He'd been abusive to Maria's mother and her for the longest time, soon realizing that it wasn't their fault. However the neighbors reported the cries and bottles smashing previous nights before and afterwards he was arrested and sentenced to prison for 10 years. At the moment he's only served 7. Maria hadn't seen her father since she was a little girl, and she was very grateful for that.
"I stole the cops phone" she could almost see his smirk through the phone.
"Dad...give it back" she heard him sigh.
"I just wanted to hear my baby girl's voice again, you should come visit" Maria's eyes started watering. It's not like she didn't want to, he was her father. But then she rembers that he was the same man that hurt her mother all those years ago. (I imagine him looking like Frank Gallagher with the voice of Finney's dad in The black phone)
"Maybe" Maria replied with a sniffle.
"How are you? Still doing good in school?" Maria nodded as if he were there in the room with her.
"Yeah, I'm in the top five in my school, I'm actually waiting for a reply from Harvard" her dad squealed childishly causing her to giggle.
"That's my girl! How many years of school do you have left?" Maria sighed, the tears flooding her eyes again.
"This is my last" her dad sighed.
"I'm so sorry, I was being so selfishly stupid and now I haven't been there to support you" Maria swore she felt a tear slip down her eye.
"It's okay dad, I understand that losing a friend would be hard" she wiped away at her wet cheeks.
"How's your mother?" Maria's breath now became shaky.
"She's good, she works really hard to keep us under this roof" her dad chuckles.
"I miss her so much, I gotta go sweetie but I'll see you in three years! Woo!" Maria chuckled.
"Can't wait, bye dad. And stop stealing cops phones unless you wanna get more years" her dad chuckled and they both hung up. Maria sighed, flopping onto her bed. As If on cue, Maria's mother walked into the room with a bright smile on her face.
"Hey bub, got any email yet?" Maria checked her laptop, soon sighing in disappointment.
"Nope" Maria's mother caressed her childs head in comfort. It always seemed to work on her.
"Maybe your computer's just slow, I'm sure you'll get in. I just know it" she kisses her cheek before standing up.
"Goodnight Maria, love you" Maria smiled at her mother's words. She was gonna miss her when she moved to college.
"Love you too" Maria's mother then closes the door, she soon gets comfortable on the sheets of her bed. Just as she was about to fall asleep, a notification popped up on her laptop. She checked it and saw it was an email from Harvard. She hesitantly clicked it, carefully reading through it. Accepted. She had to read that word a couple times over before coming to the realisation. She smiled widely before jumping out of bed and sprinting to her mother's room.
"Maria! Oh gosh I almost had a heart attack" Maria frowned.
"Please don't, anyway I have good news" her grow soon turned back into one of pure happiness.
"You got in?" Her mom asked. Maria just nodded before her mother embraced her in a hug. Both the girls jumped around in excitement.
"You're going to Harvard!" Her mother squealed excitedly. Maria giggled before shouting.
"I'm going to Harvard!"
