The girls stood at the swim coach's trunk, the boxes in hand, not before Devi noticed something. Right, the barbeque for the students that got into their dream colleges. Maria should've been there as she was asked but she refused, saying she was busy finalizing assignments.
"I should be there, celebrating with everyone" Devi spoke, Maria placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You will be there hun, you haven't been declined yet so there's no need to worry" Devi smiled at Maria's kind words. She was happy until she noticed a familiar face at the party, her expression dropping immediately. Apparently Maria noticed as well.
"Devi, no" she noticed that Devi was walking towards fabiola. And she was not happy.
"Fab.what are you doing at the early admits barbeque?" Devi asked her with annoyance in her voice. Fabiola held up the sausage she was holding before she spoke.
"I was just hungry" Devi crosses her arms, seething with a very noticeable rage. She was pissed.
"Be honest fabiola, did you actually apply to Yale?" fabiola looked to Maria for help who only gave her a look that said 'you should've told her earlier'
"Devi I..." Fabiola tried to speak before she got cut off by a bunch of students cheering. The three looked towards the screen that read congrats to fabiola Torres, accepted at Princeton University! Devi gave her a look before storming off, swim trunks in hand.
"Devi wait I can explain" fabiola shouted after her. She looked at Maria who shrugged.
"I told you fab" was the only thing she said before walking away.

For the rest of the day Devi was nowhere to be seen. Maria was sat with Ethan and a few of her other friends after the incident happened. She did however manage to get the swim trunks back to the coach. Ethan was staring her down, trying to inch closer to her on the couch that they shared. He finally slipped in next to her, resting an arm behind her. For once, she let him be him. That was until he started to kiss her neck.
"Ethan what are you doing?" She slightly pushes him away, causing him to laugh lowly. It sounded kinda hot... And seductive. Only to Maria anyway.
"I wanna ask you something" Ethan mumbles close to her ear, tickling her neck making her giggle a little.
"And that would be?" Maria looked at him, him already staring up at her in a daze. He reached out for her hand, playing with her fingers.
"Do you wanna hang out? Now that Eleanor isn't into me and stuff?" Maria looked around, thinking over the situation before nodding. It couldn't be that bad right? Ethan smiled at her nod.
"I'm gonna need more than a nod baby" Maria rolled her eyes before chuckling.
"I would love to go on a date with you" he smiled, giving her a light kiss on her cheek.
"That's good to hear" Maria smiled at him before standing up.
"Hey where you going? We have a date to plan" Ethan stepped up behind her, grabbing her waist tenderly.
"Jeez we're not even dating yet and you're already so clingy" Ethan raised his eyebrows at her reply.
"Yet? I'm only clingy so I don't lose you my love" he kisses her cheek once again.
"Also I may be able to get a second round tonight for being good?" He whispers in her ear, causing her to scoff and push him away.
"We're not even together, calm your horny ass down"

The next day, Eleanor, Devi and Maria had walked in together, talking about random subjects. Maria notices fabiola perking her head up in the hallway as the three walk up to her, causing Devi to scoff, handing her a dirty look. Maria had told Eleanor the events of the previous day so she wasn't missing out on what happened.
"Hey can we please talk?" Fabiola asked with a guilty expression before Devi spoke.
"Oh, any other dreams of mine that you wanna steal?" She rolled her eyes before walking away, eleanor hot on her trail.
"Oh Devi stop, hear her out. I really need you guys to be friends again" Eleanor held Devi by the arm to keep her from walking away.
"How can I be friends with someone I don't recognize?" Devi kept staring at fabiola as if she had killed her parents. If looks could kill am I right?
"Since when did you wanna go to princeton?" Fabiola cut her off from going any further.
"I wanted to tell you but how could I?" Which seemed to aggravate Devi more. Maria just shook her head. All she could really think about is her and Ethan's date. She couldn't say she was excited but it hasn't left her mind yet so she must be happy.
"I dunno, maybe with words? I can't believe you'd lie about something so important to me" Devi just seemed disappointed in her friend at that point.
"I am so so sorry" Maria could tell that fabiola felt bad and kept back from telling Devi, however Maria knew that Devi would find out eventually.
"You know what? Being deffered was already a stab in the heart, I didn't also need to be stabbed in the back" Devi said in a hushed tone before walking away. The rest of the girls just stared at each other with one expression on their faces.
