The week had passed quietly after that night, I used to have more frequent visits from John at work and I like having a different company at lunch, he told me a different story at each meal and was also guilty of stealing each of my smiles. My house began to be filled with fresh roses every day and during the nights we used to go to different places to get to know a little more about the city. I liked trying flavors of ice cream, starry nights, getting knowing smiles and constant stolen kisses, that man drove me crazy and every time he left me at the door of my house it used to be difficult to see how he left in his car. However, a small echo was hidden in the depths of my being, making me think of the recent happiness that was beginning to be planted in my life, that echo that makes you doubt everything and you came to question if it was the right path to follow. Even so, my life these last few weeks was being perfect and I was beginning to be happy.
That day I arrived at the store with a glowing face, I would not see John that day because I had many things to do, but the fact of thinking about him changed my day. He had dressed me in a white shirt, sneakers, and a high ponytail to maintain the look that changed my life. But that day my mood would be abruptly stopped when I saw the store closed with a sign that said "Closed until further notice" I looked at my cell phone to see if I had any messages from my boss or one of my colleagues, but the tray was empty.
I felt lost about it, I started to send a message to Mr. Mike to have an explanation or to know ¿why nobody had told me anything? ¿Was I so lost to the point of not hearing something as important as the closing of the premises? ¿What could have led him to do such a thing?
I continued to stare at the sign while not receiving a response from my punctual boss until I heard a voice behind me.
— He had a family emergency.
I came back to earth with a blow and recognizing that tone of voice I turned to look at his face.
—How strange that you didn't tell me.
I responded with a neutral face as he stood petrified in front of me staring at me as I tried to call Mr. Mike.
— He won't attend. — He commented.
—¿How are you so sure of that?
—Because I'm his best friend.
— And I the best worker of him.
— That does not give you the right to say that you know him better.
The strong and sure tone of his voice made me lower my ego a bit, it was obvious that they knew each other better even though I didn't want to admit it. Lower the smokes a bit and the somewhat more relaxed continued.
— His mother got sick.
She continued to cause him to give her a look at the news.
— She is very important to him and she will not allow herself to be interrupted while he is with her.
—¿And her family? — I asked for.
— They also accompanied him so now you will notice that nothing ties him to this place while his mother is in that condition.
I looked at him one more time and his face reflected peace and harmony, I thought he would be more upset or crazy with what was happening with John, but instead he had a Sebastian promoter of world peace, something seemed to leave him alone.
—¿You are happy? — I ask suddenly.
—¿As? — I asked trying to similar his eloquence.
— ¿What if you are happy with John? — I ask again looking towards the parquet.
