Song: Spies by Coldplay

Lee can tell immediately that something is wrong the moment I enter history class. However, he doesn't bug me about it because class is about to start and he just gets that I'm not ready. Yara however, leans forward and pokes me on my arm.

"Hey wassup?" She whispers. I send her a weak smile but that doesn't deter her.
"You're 5 minutes later than usual, did anything happen on the way?"

Oh nothing much, just that I woke up to the realization that Avery's phone was actually stolen from right under my nose.

"No Yara, everything's fine." I shift so she can't see my face anymore and I can't see hers. Last night mum and dad had immediately gone to check the CCTV cameras after I showed them the window.  Incidentally that part of the house is a blind spot. If that doesn't prove that this was a predetermined action I don't know what else is. The phone was badly messed up and the chances on it being fixed are slim, however they were chances that I was willing to take, which means that anyone with a motive would be willing to take it as well. The sickest part of this is that only one other person saw that phone with me.

Damien.

The door opens and Damien practically stumbles in. He looks derived of sleep, his hair is a mess of curls and he doesn't meet my eye as he settles down on his seat in front of me. One would guess that he spent the whole night cramming for the test but I know Damien well enough to know that he doesn't read at night. Or ever, to be completely honest. So does that mean it was him?

Damien saw the phone but he didn't even know whose phone it was. He's also never been to my house so it would've been impossible for him to know exactly where I would keep the phone. Also, Damien isn't a thief. I trust him enough. I truly do, but the Law and Order in me knows better than to trust. And so we're on a 50:50.

History was a blast. It's actually the last thing on my mind as I walk towards the lab for chemistry. It's been exactly 2 weeks since Avery went missing and it's starting to lose its power. There aren't any whispers anymore about where she could be and what she was like. No one even talks about her anymore, like she doesn't exist. Like she wasn't even here. The A.P class teachers miss her though, it's incredibly obvious whenever they walk into the class and their top student isn't there to welcome them. Just last week our Calculus teacher literally bawled in class when the entire class flopped the assignment he had given us. If Avery were here she would've gotten and we would have gotten it too because she was never stingy with her answers. The fact that the teachers still speak about her and openly wish for her return makes me glad but I'm starting to think that it could easily make others jealous. Other people who had a clean steak like Avery. We've been zeroing in on the people Avery had questionable relationships with but what if it's just someone who wants her gone because it's the only way to get to that spotlight?

But who?

"Dude are you okay?" Kavinsky stares at me blankly. I blink rapidly, taking in my surroundings. I didn't even realize when I entered the chemistry lab and sat down. Now the entire table stares at me questioningly.

"I'm good..I was just lost in thought," I give him a reassuring look. He still looks worried but decides to let it go.

"We were saying that you should come to the game tonight. You haven't been to a major game in like a month?"

"Oh yeah sure I can try–"

"Nah dude you've gotta come. There's a cool party afterwards too. Besides, a little birdie told me that Jordan's coming too," he Snickers at me at the last part and I don't miss the nearly inaudible 'ooh' that the other lacrosse players give out.
