37. Dark

  The cafeteria is loud and hot and I'm getting more and more irritated by the second. All morning I haven't been able to think straight. All I want to do is get up and find the red house. What if Avery has been there from the start? Did she know He was going to kidnap her? Did he hurt her already?

"Hey, earth to Adonis?" yara's hand waves across my face. I blink rapidly and focus on my friends in front of me. Damien is giving me a funny look and Yara looks like I've grown a horn.

"What is it?" I bite out.

"We should be asking you, you've had a frown on your face all day," she replies. She nods at my untouched food.

"I'm just worried about the car accident," I lie. Well, half lie. I haven't heard anything about it since yesterday afternoon when I'd made Declan hurry back home.

"Did something new come up?" Damien implores. Before I can come up with another half lie I catch Declan walk into the cafeteria. He stands still for a moment and scans the place for something. It's inevitable that his eyes land on mine and when they do he seems to flare up immediately.

Declan starts stalking towards me.

I let out an audible sigh which makes Yara and Damien turn around to see who I was looking at.

"You fucking nerd!" This is how Declan starts his assault. He's loud and angry, which attracts everyone to our table. I can literally see the confusion in everyone's eyes. Is he calling Adonis a nerd!?

I know right?

"I think you should go back to your seat Declan," I say calmly, raising my head so I can see him clearly from my seat. Declan scoffs and runs a hand through his hair.

"What exactly do you think you're doing?" He growls at me.

"Do you really want to do this here?"

"My bike's been confiscated because of you! You're going around causing havoc and over what? A girl you couldn't even gather the balls to talk to!?"

"Oh and you're the guy with the balls? Flirting with her when no one's there to see it?" A faint gasp. Declan tries to rush into me but I push him back and stand up. Yara stands up too and she's sending me distressed expressions.

"Listen you big jerk, don't think just because I let you talk trash about me I'll let you get away with everything. Right now you've got no substance. And if you love your bike so much you should probably not use it to try to kill other people!"

It happens quite fast in my defense, I knew he was going to punch me, I just didn't have the time to choose how to react. His fist connects with my cheek in one quick motion, throwing me off my balance for a moment. Now the cafeteria is in disarray. Damien is trying to drag Declan but he throws him off and comes at me again, but this time I dodge so he just attacks the air. I grab his long curls and push backwards, forcing him to get a balance and getting myself right up in his face.

"If I were you I wouldn't be punching me. I'm literally the only one who believes you didn't take Avery," I sneer at him. He grunts and forces my hand off him.

"Am I supposed to be grateful? Because your sick ass thinks I'm innocent. I am innocent! You think you can solve anything just because you had one conversation with her? You never even knew her! You have no idea the things that went through her head! She was ducking crazy–"

I start towards him but I'm stopped by the sudden intervention of a shorter being. I glare down and the brown skinned girl glaring at Declan.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Jordan whisper yells at Declan. The crowd starts murmuring something along the lines of "his girlfriend".
