Chapter 1
London, England (Sophomore Year at the University)
I have been staring on the ceiling for what felt like hours nang bigla na lang tumunog ang phone ko.
♫♪ Think of me when you're out, when you're out there
I'll beg you nice from my knees
And when the world treats you way too fairly
Well, it's a shame I'm a dream
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you♫♪
“Hello, Angela speaking, who’s this?” I say once I pick up the phone.
“Hey, Angela, how’s it going?” sabi nung caller sa kabilang line.
“Troy. I’m…err.. good. What’s up?” Okay, I’m really not good when saying I’m good when I’m really not. Lagi na lang may di maiwasang edge sa words ko.
“I’ve got big news. So don’t sound so malungkot na,” napatawa ako sa pagpronounce nya nung word.
Kahit kelan talaga ‘tong si Troy, lagi nalang merong lame attempts sa pagsasalita ng Tagalog in almost all our talks.
“”Wow, saan mo nakuha yung word na yun?” I say.
Well, he understands Tagalog naman even though he only spent seven year of his life in Pinas.
“Stop kidding around damsel in distress,”
I chuckled again. Si Troy ang unang naging friend ko sa foreign land na ‘to. Two years ago, after my senior year in High School, I decided to move out of my home country Philippines, dahil sa mga di kanais-nais na mga nangyari.
Marami akong gustong kalimutan kaya ako umalis. Pero once na nakarating na ako sa London to continue my college education, hindi ko pa rin natakasan kaagad ang mga events ng nakaraan. Every now and then, maalala ko lahat tapos bigla nalang ako maiiyak. Apparently, hindi ako masyado nagkaroon ng friends during my first few months of stay here in London. Si Troy lang talaga ang unang nag-approach sa akin to offer his friendship and company.
Yung damsel in distress, tawag nya na sakin yun from the very start pa lang dahil nga medyo under pa ako ng hysteria nung nakita nya akong mag-isa sa isang corner ng library. To my surprise, nang magkakilala na kaming dal’wa, nalaman ko na lang na half-Filipino, half-French pala sya. He always attempts to talk to me in Filipino just to cheer me up. We’ve been good friends all along. Best friends kami, actually. If you’re wondering if there’s anything else na namamagitan sa amin, like something romantic, masasabi kong malabo yun hindi lang dahil hindi pa ako handa after what just happened to me before kundi dahil hanggang best friend lang talaga ang turing ko kay Troy.
“Kay, fine. So what is it you wanna talk about?” sabi ko.
“I’ve got good news for you. You ought to go here at the campus. I’ll be at the student center, okay? Meet you there at 3pm.” He responds sabay hung up.
What was that about? It seems like sobrang cheerful nya. I really hope good news ‘to.
After changing to some decent clothes, nagready na ako for school. Wala naman talaga akong klase today, but since hindi ko kayang indyanin ang best friend ko, naghead na ako sa school at around two in the afternoon.
I currently study at the University of London na isa sa mga prestihiyosong eskwelahan sa Europe. I’m majoring in Fashion Design. Siguro after all the things na nangyari, pagdedesign na lang ng different kinds of clothing ang nakakapawi ng mga pessimistic thoughts ko.
