PART ONE - CHAPTER TWO;
MASON MOUNT
5th June – 10th June 2021
The Euro's summer was finally here. It was long awaited and highly anticipated. Declan Rice, Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and John Stones were all counting their lucky stars that they had been included in the squad selection and they all just hoped they could make their country proud.
So as the first week of camp starts they finally get a chance to soak it all in, that they had finally made it.
-----------------------------------
"Mase" a voice shouted from behind him as he leant against the windows in the gym, his eyes had been focused on the coaches setting up for this afternoon's practice, watching the way he could see her blonde flecks in her brown hair as she bent down to place down cones.
"Mase, you got a second" Dec calls him again as he gets into earshot, Ben leaving his side to go and join Jack on the exercise bikes.
"Sure bro, what's up?" replied Mason as he turned his full attention towards Dec now, no longer eyeing up the way Sophia looks in her tight fitted England yoga pants or the way he knows she has a couple of marks on her hip from when he snuck into her room last night.
"It's a bit of a weird one" said Dec, rubbing his hand over his mouth, a nervous tick he has always had as Mason laughs "like I know things are good between us now and I don't ever want to keep things from each other, so I wanted to just check if you were okay with something" he asks him.
Mason couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt as he heard Dec's words, he knew that with everything that had happened with the group recently that they were all only just finding their new normal. He honestly was happy for Dec and Daisy, he thinks being with Sophia helped that, he didn't really have time to dwell massively on it all.
But what he didn't like was all the secrets that had been kept, especially between the three of them, and even though Dec and Daisy both thought that they were now all on the same page, no secrets between them, Mason knew he had been keeping his own secret and it was getting harder each day.
"I urm – " Dec starts as he thinks of how silly this sounds but he knows he wants to do this so that he shows Mason that they have the same relationship as before "I've got Daisy a shirt for the England match with my name on the back and I just wanted to check you were okay with it"
Declan looks towards Mason, seeing the smile on his face as he realises that his best friend was just worried over something so silly. He reaches a hand out to Dec's arm as he speaks "mate she's your girlfriend, you don't need to check with me, but I do really appreciate it".
Dec smiles while letting out the pent-up breath "thanks bro, I know its silly, its just you know, I didn't want you to be the last to know" he admits, feeling that he didn't want him to look up in the stands and see her wearing the number 4 shirt rather than her usual number 19.
"Nah I get that" he said smiling "thanks for telling me though".
"No problem" said Dec "have you ordered your shirts for your family and that yet?" Dec asks, knowing they needed to get them in by the end of the week so that they can be delivered next week.
"Yeah I have" said Mason as his eyes catch the sight of Sophia walking back towards the grounds, her sunglasses on the top of her head, her hair tied up in a high ponytail while her eyes looked up towards him.
A faint smile could be seen on her lips, as he mimicked the look back at her, knowing he was yet to see her properly today but yet like every single day he gets the same butterflies every single time he sees her.
