PART THREE - CHAPTER TWO;

MASON MOUNT

14th June – 18th June

The aftershocks of the Croatia match and the build up to the England draw on the 18th June against Scotland at a drizzly Wembley.

Declan Rice, Mason Mount & John Stones all start, with Ben Chilwell on the bench.

-----------------------------------

Mason had tried to get Sophia to stay with him after the Croatia match, he thought it would be prime time for them to be together as everyone else was distracted. However, it wasn't possible.

She had been pulled into one of the meeting rooms as soon as they made it back to the grounds, with her, Liam and Josh having to quickly pull reports and analysis for Gareth to look through the following day. As even though the players got rest, most of the backroom staff didn't get that same privilege.

He had been gutted that during his rest day too she was busy with the post-match analysis, although she had told him that after the Scotland match she had already told the team that she wouldn't be available as she knew it was a late match and would want some rest.

However, her and Mason had already arranged that he would hopefully stay in her room that night and wake up together the next day, something he had missed so much since they had been at camp.

He had decided to spend his rest day playing basketball, he had tried to grab a few others together to play but everyone seemed to be off relaxing or talking to their families back home and it was only so many times he could facetime his parents and hear the same thing.

He did feel a little bit lost at one point during that day, he felt like normally he would have two options when he felt like this at camp and unfortunately he couldn't do either of them. Option one would have been to call Daisy or text her, just to check in and hear her give her best analysis of the match or fill him on the gossip from home.

Option two would be to hang out with Dec and mope around together, both missing home but feeling like a piece of home was here because they had each other.

However, he knew he couldn't do that.

He didn't want to impose.

He knew they would want to be spending time together, and he knew that if it were the other way around and he could be with Soph that he would jump at the chance, so he didn't want to take that away from anyone else.

It just felt like both his best friends were forgetting about him, and he didn't like that at all.

"Never gonna happen" Dec replies back to Mason before he stops himself from saying anymore.

"Dais tell him" Mason shouts as he turns to look at the way Daisy is stood laughing away at the pair of them.

He sulks all the way over to her as she lets go of her camera, allowing it to hang around her neck. She is still smiling at him as he approaches her, while Dec takes another shot at the net.

"He's such a wind up" Mason tells her as Daisy shakes her head.

"You are both as bad as each other" Daisy said while frowning yet still smiling at him.

"Nah he's worse" Mason said back as Daisy looks down at the image on her screen, a picture of both Mason and Dec laughing with each other moments before.

"You wouldn't have him any other way" Daisy reminds him as Mason looks down at the image too, lifting her camera slightly to see it better.

"I like this one" he tells her as he points at the photo.

"Me too" Daisy admits as she smiles towards Dec who is still showing off to the video camera "I have quite a few I've taken of you two and a few of Ben that I've been saving on a separate memory stick so we can get them developed in the summer".

Mason smiles as he flicks through a few more, seeing him bursting out laughing, then one of Dec acting up, he feels so privileged that he gets to experience all of this with him.

"That's a good idea" Mason recalls as he looks towards Daisy "I wanna add some more photos to our photo books" the word 'our' slips out before he can pull it back, blushing as Daisy lets out a little laugh.

It was a thing that him and Daisy had done since the moment they got together, she had created a couple of photo books with pictures from their first dates, their first holidays, just key moments in their lives.

And over time it had become a big collection, books for almost every event and moment in their life and Mason had tried to continue it after him and Daisy split.

Although the photo books that just revolved around him and Daisy were sat in a box in one of the guest wardrobes, he still had some photo books that were more generic events out, but whenever he thought of them, they reminded him of them.

"I mean-" Mason started, still slipping on his words as Daisy continues to laugh.

"I know what you meant Mase" she tells him, smiling at him now "I think that's a really lovely idea, I was going to get a few photo books made too so I can do some for you from the photos I take if you want?" she asks him.

"Yeah I'd like that, thank you" he tells her, just glad that there is never anything awkward between them now.

"Still get goosebumps" said Dec as he looked around Wembley with Mason by the side of him.

"Same bro" Mason replied back, once again feeling the weight of being selected for this team upon his shoulders.

He looks around himself, looking at the seats starting to fill up, the crowds cheering them as they just make their way around the bare pitch.

His eyes scan up to where his friends and families are sitting. He can see his mum and dad waving before he looks towards where he is sure its Ruby jumping up and down waving.

He nudges Dec as they both turn and look, seeing the group stood waving like crazy towards them. It doesn't look like they are all there but the majority were so that's all that matters.

His eyes scan down towards the bench before they land on her, Sophia. She is stood smiling towards him, her eyes shamelessly scanning his body as he walks back towards her on his way down towards the tunnel.

"Coach" he smirks at her as he reaches her.

"Mase" she replies back smirking "good luck out there" she reminds him as he starts walking away, he looks over his shoulder towards her, noticing that no one else is around as he shoots her a cheeky wink.

He cannot wait for the match, but he really cannot wait for afterwards.
