PART SIX – CHAPTER TWO;

MASON MOUNT

1st July – 4th July

England need to remain focused after the exhilaration of beating Germany on home soil as they prepare to take the trip to Rome to face Ukraine on the 3rd July with a 4:0 win over the team. A goal from Kane in the 4th minute, Maguire in the 46th minute, Kane again in the 50th minute and Jordan Henderson scoring in the 63rd minute with an assist from Mason from the corner, secures their place in the Sem-Finals.

Declan Rice, Mason Mount and John Stones all start with Declan subbed off in the 57th minute for Jordan Henderson. However Ben Chilwell is on the bench.

Mason grinned as he boarded the plane, Dec's joke ringing in his ear as he laughed to himself. He was glad they could have this kind of humour around their situation, he didn't ever want to feel like they weren't still the same best friends as before.

However his thoughts were cut short as his eyes landed on her, Sophia, sat in one of the front row's, her iPad once again attached to her hand as Josh sat next to her chatting away about the earlier training session, what the players did well, what they didn't and how they can improve things before the match.

But Sophia's eyes looked upon Mason smiling at him as he grins at her too, both simultaneously thinking about that they woke up together in bed this morning, after a rocky couple of days.

Mason had told Sophia that Daisy knew that she had seen them looking close and that he had spoken to her about them, not telling her that he had spilled almost all their secrets but just letting her know that she knew.

Sophia wasn't sure how she felt about it. She was slightly thankful that that was all it was. When she had seen Mason and Daisy chatting away at Daisy's little birthday party she did feel a slight panic in her chest. They looked so close, so happy, so couple like and she felt a pang of jealousy over it all.

Now though she knows they were actually talking about her and although she feels a fear that someone else knows about the two of them she can't help but feel content that it was just a friendly conversation like she thought it was.

So Mason had been trying to make it up to Sophia, lots more time spent reminding her that he loved her, that he wanted her and only her and that she had to never worry about him and any other girls. And after a bit of gentle persuasion Sophia agreed to let Mason stay in her room last night, enjoying each other's company before this huge match, a match that Sophia knew Mason was fretting over.

But now as she saw him smiling as he passed her to find a seat next to Luke she hoped he realised he had nothing to worry about.

"Dya think I could smuggle this home?" Mason said with a smile on his face as Dec lets out a loud laugh.

"A huge inflatable unicorn?" he asks as Mason nods "yeah mate I think they might notice you walking out with that" he laughs as Mason laughs too.

"Gonna need to get some of these for home" Mason said talking to himself slightly as he looked around the almost empty pool, just him and Dec making the most of the water on the recovery day after their win against Ukraine in Rome last night.

Mason hadn't expected to get Dec to suggest on their morning walk around St George's Park that they spend a bit of time together just the two of them, he knew he had been spending any free time he could with Daisy, and he couldn't really blame him for that.
