PART ONE - CHAPTER FOUR;

JOHN STONES

5th June – 10th June 2021

The Euro's summer was finally here. It was long awaited and highly anticipated. Declan Rice, Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and John Stones were all counting their lucky stars that they had been included in the squad selection and they all just hoped they could make their country proud.

So as the first week of camp starts they finally get a chance to soak it all in, that they had finally made it.

"Did you see me?" John said, his hair still dripping on top of his head with a big grin on his face as Alex smiled at him, taking a sip from her lemon flavoured water.

"Yes I did" she said laughing as his face becomes even more animated.

"Did you see that I almost got Liam, like he had to dodge it last minute?" he tells her as he leans forwards to take the straw from her drink into his mouth as she smiles at him.

"Yeah, well done" she laughs, its moments like this that remind her that he is the exact same boy she met 10 years ago, with the same childlike wonder at times over the smallest things.

"Thanks" he tells her as he leans down to kiss her lips once before pulling back.

After all the years of them being here together he had gotten used to the way they would keep their public displays of affection down to a minimum.

It wasn't that he didn't want to snog her in front of everyone and walk around showing her off, like the way Dec was currently doing with Daisy but he knew they were both here to do a job so he had to be somewhat professional.

The only thing he did put his foot down on when it came to their relationship was that when they were at camp that they shared the same room, he didn't see the point of them being in separate rooms, they're married so it makes more sense.

For Alex she was so used to being at St George's Park without John that when he was around it was that same feeling of butterflies when she saw him. He still took her breath away to this day, just like he did the first time she saw him around those sun loungers in that Ibiza hotel.

She was used to being apart from him though, they had many times over the years when they would have to have distance between themselves, most of the time out of their control.

She knew this the moment she agreed to be his girlfriend feeling loved up and full of Lemon Fanta in the airport, she knew that it wouldn't be as easy as being together, things were never simple when you are seventeen.

They struggled for the first year together, with the three hour distance between the two of them as well as them both trying to complete their last years of college and sixth form at times it was hard.

Alex always reminds herself of the night not long after she turned 18, also not long after John made his debut for Barnsley, when her and John had been together about nine months and she was driving home from his after a blazing row that didn't need to be that heated.

Alex had told him she wouldn't be able to travel back and forth over the next couple of months as she needed to knuckle down to get the grades to go to the University she wanted to go to which was already a contentious issue.

John had asked her to apply for Leeds University, claiming it would be closer for him as he had a contract with Barnsley, and they could always get an apartment together.
