Financial Trouble

At the nurse's office, Barbra was getting treated while Dave was with her waiting for the nurse to arrive. While Barbra was in her own thoughts, Dave on the other hand was trying to figure out what is happening to him. He never wanted to help anyone, save for Neo last year. He didn't even wanna bother with any other students. Yet, why is he even doing this, and why? The Phantom Human scoffed thinking that Neo's kindness is rubbing off on him. But is that it? Or is it something else?

Soon enough, a nurse with pink hair arrived with a clipboard. Dave knew her as Nurse Joy, Nintendo High's school nurse. Nurse Joy waved at them. "Hello."

"Hi." Barbra said quietly.

"Now...Barbra Rose Minerva. What seems to be the trouble?" The nurse asked.

Barbra stuttered as she answered. "Well...This...girl hit me and attacked me...when I accidentally spilled my drink on her..."

"It was Minerva Mink who attacked her." Dave added.

"I see." Nurse Joy then looked at Barbra to inspect the damage. "And what about you young man?"

"Nothing. I brought her here."

"Aw. How sweet of you."

Dave scoffed. Nurse Joy then inspects Barbra's face, mostly her nose. After looking, cleaning, and seeing how sensitive it is, She had all the answers she needs. She then gave her an ice pack to put on her nose area.

"Ok. Well, good news is that there is no fractures on the face. There is swelling of course. So you will need to hold onto that pack on your nose until the swelling goes down. And don't worry. You can throw it away after you're done." Nurse Joy instructed.

"T...Thank you." Barbra answered while shivering from the coldness.

Nurse Joy then looked at the files. "Now. I will have to notify your...oh." Nurse Joy's smile faded.

"What is it?" Dave asked.

"Young man. What is your relationship to her?"

Dave nearly jumped hearing that. He just met this Cheetah Anthro and already he felt something when the nurse asked him this. He shook it off and answered. "Just an acquaintance. Why?"

Nurse Joy came to him and whispered into his ear in hopes that Barbra will not hear. "Well, it seems that she is on her own."

"What do you mean?" Dave asked.

"Well, according to the papers, her father passed away from natural causes while her mother is on recorded. Now she lives in fostering care. But is hardly there except night time when she sleeps."

"Are you saying she has no family?"

"I'm afraid so." Nurse Joy puts her files away before looking at Barbra with sympathetic eyes.

"It's ok. I'm fine on my own...If I...oh, never mind." Barbra sighed.

It was clear to Dave that Barbra has heard everything, thus making the situation worse. Dave cannot help but feel a hint of sorrow for her. It was true that he had a mother since he was created and always loved her as a son. So it was impossible for him to know what it's like to have no parents at all. This strange feeling he has for her is still there. But as stubborn as he is, he decided to brush it off.

"Can I go now?" Barbra asked.

"Of course. I'm all done anyway. And please take care." Nurse Joy smiled to make her comfortable.

Barbra nodded and got up. As she turned however, her eyes widened. Feeling curious of what she was looking at, Dave turned around to see a group of men walking through the hallway. Barbra finally asked. "Who are they?"
