Part XXV: Meet the Gang

"Oh, Dabi. We didn't know you'd returned." The voice of an unknown man sounded from the door. Touya placed his hand on your head and applied a gentle pressure, silently begging you to stay hidden.

"How was your search for new members?" The voice spoke. Before Touya could respond, the girl chimed in.

"Oh, please, he probably just burned up everyone he saw again." Her friendly voice starkly contrasted the violent statement she'd just made. It shouldn't have come as much of a shock to you, though, given the research you'd done on her. 'Himiko Toga.' You thought back to what Keigo had told you about her. 'She likes knives.' Even if she were armed, she was still just a kid. You'd have little trouble taking her down if you needed to, but with two other League members around, you'd be at a disadvantage.

"Shut up, you psycho." Dabi grumbled. "It's not my fault all of these wannabes are weak." His voice was lower and more menacing than what you'd been hearing from him. Was he doing that on purpose? You huffed out a quiet chuckle of air. Touya acting tough for the League was downright comical, if not a little cringy. Touya's hand squeezed your skull lightly, as if protesting your slight noise. You rolled your eyes and continued your eavesdropping.

The man at the door spoke up again. "Yes, we saw the plumes of smoke not far from here. It was quite a nuisance - the whole street was crawling with police and heroes. That wouldn't have been your doing, now, would it?" So they had seen the factory fire. You sifted through the list of League members in your mind as you worked to figure out who this might be.

Touya removed his hand from your head and shoved it into his pocket. "Might've been." He replied nonchalantly.

"We're supposed to be keeping a low profile, man! Hell yeah, burn it down!" Now that must be Twice.

"Indeed. We had to take our intermission early just to keep from being seen." Who was that? He sounded too formal to be Twice or Shigaraki.

'That only leaves Compress & Iguchi.' Perhaps it was prejudiced, but you doubted the lizard-like man draped in Stain garb would speak so properly. 'It's gotta be Compress.' You had to admit, it was a cruel irony that your actions at the factory had prompted the League to come right to you. It was like a kind of instant karma. Though, perhaps Touya was to blame for bringing you here in the first place. Perhaps you should have listened when he wanted to hurry.

Touya slouched his shoulders as he attempted to appear more relaxed. "Someone's gotta get out there and make a name for us. I don't suppose you three have done much to contribute." He complained. That explained how he was covering for his absences with the League. His time with you had been masked under the guise of recruiting new members. Well, at least you were inconveniencing their operations somehow.

"Oh, don't be such a grump!" Toga said. "Man, I'm starving. Is there anything left in here?" You heard her footsteps wander off to your left. Your breath hitched in your throat as she sauntered over to the kitchenette, which sat perpendicular to the couch. You raised your hands to cover your mouth and nose, worried the sound of your breathing could tip them off.

"There might be if you greedy bastards hadn't eaten it all." Touya remarked sarcastically. The banging of the cabinets as they opened and closed sounded off behind you.

"What? No way, I swear there were some more cans left in here." She griped. You heard Touya sigh above you. It was becoming increasingly obvious that he was annoyed by their presence - a feeling you greatly shared. You desperately wanted them gone. If Touya didn't want them seeing you, there must be a good reason. You weren't going to doubt him now. You stayed as quiet as you could and used one hand to steady your crouched form against the back of the sofa.
