You smiled and stayed silent for a moment, waiting for him to notice what you were doing.

"Stop holding your breath."

"God, that's so cool."

"It's a blessing and a curse."

"I bet. Hearing everyone's voices all the time."

"I can filter it out. It's bad when I hear things that I don't want to hear."

"Like?"

"Like, when some friends of mine were planning a surprise birthday party for me, and I heard them inside my apartment."

"That sucks."

"Like I said, blessing and a curse."

"I wish I had powers."

"It's not all it's cracked up to be."

"But you can hear people all across the city, and I just throw a few punches."

You rolled your eyes and smiled at him.

Matt: Hey. I know you're probably asleep right now, but I was wondering if you'd want to get breakfast in the morning? Or, this morning, I guess.

You: Yeah! I have one question though.

Matt: Yeah?

You: How'd you text me?

Matt: Siri.

You: Oh. Duh. Sorry.

Matt: It's okay. It's a valid question.

You: So, I'll pick you up at 8:00?

Matt: Sounds great!

You: Goodnight....or good morning.

You furrowed your eyebrows and dialed Shani's number.

"Hello?" She said groggily.
