Pov Haldir:
It was the night before the wedding and I was wandering around the realm to clear my head, when I ran into Legolas.
"Legolas!" I called out for the other elf. Slowly he turned around. Face reserved but neutral. "What is it, Commander?" His voice was stern, when he addressed me. I approached him, leaning against the delicate fence covered in ivy next to him. "We cant go on like that. Ignoring each other. Its not helpful to this whole situation." I started, letting my eyes wander over Imladris, which was peacefully covered in the blanket of the night.
"You made it rather clear, what your thoughts were regarding me." Legolas murmured, not looking at me. I groaned. "Yes, and I am sorry for it. I truly am."
"Did Visha send you? Perhaps you hope to share her bed again?" He jibed sarcastically.
"She did not." I hissed through gritted teeth. "She does not know I am here. I came here, because I want to mend things between us. We were good friends, back in the day. I wish to have you back as a friend and maybe sometime as an equal partner next to my wife."
Those words made him snap his head up. "Are you drunk, mellon?" I laughed a bitter laugh. "No." I stayed silent for a few moments. Thinking about my options, but they were rather slim. It was true, what he said. I wanted my wife back, but I also knew she would stay cold and resilient if I didn't find a way to work things out with Legolas. "Fight with me. Let all the anger out on me. After that we shall find a way to solve this whole situation." I offered, looking at him pleadingly.
"Why?" Was all he asked. Not moving from his stiff stand.
"I don't know." I answered truthfully. "I have been a fighter, a protector my whole life. I am not good at solving things that don't require a sword." My helplessness made the young elf chuckle: "Obviously. But I appreciate your effort, mellon." Finally turning towards me, Legolas wore a small smile on his lips, putting a hand on my shoulder. "I will fight with you. Promise me to not hold back."
"Never."
So here we were. Only wearing cotton pants, all sweaty and covered in sand from the trainings ring. Panting I rolled over my shoulder, dodging an attack from Legolas. He came after me, not realizing he let his stand be attackable. Swinging my foot over the ground I plowed him to the ground, pressing him down, arms twisted on his back.
"Join us."
"What?" He was so irritated, he let his complete body slump to the ground.
"I am offering you to join me and my wife in bed." I held him pinned to the ground. One arm around his neck, the other one used as leverage on his shoulder.
"I am not sure, if you are tricking me, or saying the truth." Legolas wheezed in my tight grip, finally tapping the ground, to signal his surrender. Immediately I let go of him, sitting back on my knees. "It's the truth. I am not tricking you." I took a deep breath. "You and Visha are eyeing each other. I can see how much you desire her and the other way around. It is only a matter of time for it to happen, and I don't want to pressure Visha into secrecy." Looking to the side ashamed of what I was about to say, I continued: "Besides, I have been thinking about it. You know, bringing another person into the bedroom. That's why I freaked, when I heard you kissed her. I feared..." My voice broke. "I feared it would lead to her thinking I wasn't enough." I whispered
Legolas looked at me in disbelief. "I... uh... I..." He stuttered.
"You don't have to take my offer." I quickly said. "It was nothing more than a thought I had. I haven't even told her, so there will be no awkwardness between the two of you."
"That's not what I am thinking." Legolas murmured. "I just didn't think, you would be the one to make the first step. Since the day we know each other it has always been me, offering peace. You were always the stubborn elfling."
"Yeah." I chuckled. "Its been a long time, mellon. Visha is important to me. I want her to be happy. And you are part of her happiness. What kind of a husband would I be, if I denied her? She saved me from my secluded, lonely life. She is my everything."
Getting up from his feet, Legolas offered me his hand: "And you are not only doing this for her sake? Because if you are, I don't want it." Shaking my head, I got up. "No. Like I said I had thought about something like this, for some time now. This whole situation is just pure coincidence and I am glad about it. Reduces the whole thought about who to ask, who to trust. Because I trust you, with my life and hers. There would be nobody else I would completely confide my wife to."
Legolas was thinking. I could see him weighting his options and the possible outcomes. Not wanting to pressure him, I waited. "Okay." He finally said. "I will. But only if she is the one asking for it. Until then, I shall wait." He put an arm on my shoulder. "Thank you for your words. I know how hard it must be for you and I truly appreciate it. Maybe you are right. And maybe someday we can be equal partners next to Visha." He grinned slyly. "I like being the first to do things. Gives me the satisfaction to win over my father."
I shook my head. "You haven't changed a bit, gwanur*.
