Goodbye To You

Alvin Seville walked next door to the Miller house to see his girlfriend. Brittany had called him and asked him to come over to meet her there. He wasn't sure why, but figured this would be the perfect time to do what he had been considering for weeks, but was hesitant to. He needed to break up with her.

It's not that he fell out of love with Brittany or anything. On the contrary, he was still very much in love with her. But Brittany had so much going on in her life right now. Miss Miller's death, becoming emancipated and forced into guardianship over Jeanette and Eleanor (despite being only a few minutes older than both her sisters), hurting her knee and getting benched from everything she loves. It was just getting to be too much for Alvin.

It's not that he didn't have any sympathy for Brittany. But it was all she ever talked about anymore. He was starting to feel like he was dating someone in her 30s instead of a girl his age. He just wasn't sure he was really capable of providing the kind of support Brittany needed at this time.

But then every time he was about to break things off, the memories would come flooding back again. He and Brittany had always kind of had an on and off thing since they first met when they were 8 years old. But they made their relationship official in seventh grade, after the winter dance.

Simon and Jeanette also became an official couple around the same time, as did Theodore and Eleanor. It was nice when the six of them went on triple dates, as it always felt exactly like old times with all of them hanging out as friends.

But Alvin enjoyed his alone time with Brittany even more. Especially all those make out sessions. All those times he would cut certain classes to make out with Brittany during school hours. They both enjoyed the thrill of possibly getting caught. It just made these sessions all the more hot and exciting.

Of course, this all started out as Alvin's idea. It took quite a bit of persuasion to get Brittany to go along with it. But eventually, she became just as impulsive as him and he knew she looked forward to their school hours make out sessions just as much as he did.

Then there were the dates where it would be just the two of them. They would have a blast simply doing things together like going to the movies or amusement parks. Not to mention going to parties almost every Friday or Saturday night. He remembered how much fun Brittany used to be.

But after Miss Miller passed away, it seemed Brittany only ever wanted to have heavy, serious discussions. This was definitely not Alvin's thing. She didn't even want to compete with him anymore or have their usual love/hate banter.

As strange as it sounded, those were actually the things that made him fall in love with her in the first place. It was what made Alvin and Brittany... well... Alvin and Brittany. Whether they were friends or a couple, the rivalry between them always seemed to lie beneath the surface. Just waiting to come out next time there was something for the two to argue about. Having it any other way was a totally foreign concept to Alvin.

The fun dates also had to stop once Brittany hurt her knee, since she couldn't do too much physical activity while still healing. This included walking or standing for too long. So dates were pretty much limited to just the Miller house. He could only tolerate watching the same movies so many times before it got boring.

Alvin sighed as he got to the Chipettes' front door. Was this really what he wanted to do? He thought for a moment. It might not have actually been what he wanted, but it was what was needed. He was convinced this was going to be what was best for both him and Brittany in the end. He needed to be with someone who didn't come with so much baggage and she deserved to be with someone who could handle everything she was going through better than he could. He just hoped Brittany would see it that way too.
