Everything happened so fast, one moment I was still in the horrible place then I was here. I just cried, and cried as the girls washed me, dress me, and sowed up my cut. They dressed me in a black tank top and shorts, the tank top has lace on rim and the straps. When they finally left I realized I had no idea where I was, I had none of my clothes or things. All I knew was the man you brought me was a High Lord, when I younger my brother told me story's about them, how strong and fierce they are. This man did not seem fierce, but nether did my now old master, Jon at first. He was kind to me for a week, he would feed me and leave me alone for the most part. But after that week I never got that treatment again.

I sat on the bed, my wet hair dripping on the bedding. The mattress was thick, you couldn't feel the wooden panels that held it up like my old bed. I had stopped crying finally, but I just felt empty like everything just poured out of my body with my sobs, I slowly place my feet on the cold dark wood floor. I walked over to the patio doors and slowly opened them.

The view was beautiful, I was used to so much snow and snow, but there was not a trace here, only on the mountain tops was there snow. I could hear the laughter and music of the people. Was I dead? I questioned my self this place was so beautiful so peaceful. I walk to the railing of the balcony, my wings dragging on the stone. I prop my self up on the railing, My feet dangling off, with one wrong move I could fall. The air was sweet here, I liked it. I got off the railing and walked back into my room.

I got into the bed, the warm sheets were making me sleepy. So I close my eyes and let my self drift into sleep, peaceful sleep, something foreign to me.

The next morning...

I was awoken to a light knock on the door, I sat up in the bed. A girl walked in, she held a plate of food, my mouth watered from the smell. She placed it in my lap, she then lifted some of my hair from my forehead and checked my forehead wound, she got ointment and cloth. She dipped the cloth in the ointment then dapped it on my forehead. When she was done she just walked out of the room, I wanted to say thank you I really did but my body wouldn't let me conjure words. I stared down at the plate of food, fresh eggs, berries, and bacon. The food made me want to cry as I ate it, but luckily for me I had no tears left to cry.

When I was done I set the plate on a dresser, i then went to the other side of the room and opened the wooden closet, it was filled of dresses, I picked out a simple pale purple one, I had trouble getting it on with my wings but eventually I got it on. I sat down at the white wooden vanity and looked at my self in the mirror, the wound and my black eye were almost gone, I couldn't believe it.

I walk out of the room slowly, looking around to see if there was anyone, I walked down the hallway, my bare feet shivering from the floor, I hear people talking and laughing and follow the sound, I walk down the marble stairs, I see three people, one woman with blonde hair, she was wearing a red dress, then two Illyrian men stood by her, they were wearing fighting leathers. Just as I was about to turn around and go back to my room, I hear a voice, " Girl" the blonde woman says. My eyes meet her brown ones.

I walk down the rest of stairs and stand in front of them, just as it looks like the blonde girl was going to say something, a men walks through the door, It was the man who saved me. When he sees me his face softens. " oh your awake, and I see the clothes Mor picked out for you fit" he said, " Come sit" he says gesturing towards the couch, I walk over sit down, " Could you leave us" he says to the others, they all nod, the blonde girl walks out first, then the Illyrian man with shoulder length hair. The last had short hair you could see his Illyrian tattoos on his neck. Shadows followed him as he walked.

" What's your name" The High Lord asked, " Iris" it was the first time I had spoken in a day, " It's nice to meet you Iris" he said with a smirk, " I'm Rhysand, but you probably already know that" of course he was the High Lord of night court, I was in night court. My brother had told me about the city of nightmares, I had lived in the Illyrian mountains all my life. But this place seemed like no nightmare but a dream. " This is the city of nightmares?" I ask, he laughs and shakes his head, " No this is the city of dreams, Velaris" he says, " I have never heard of it before" I say, " Most haven't".

" Why" I caught on my words, " Why did you buy me?" I ask, " I thought you might ask that, well one because you were in trouble there" he said, he got up to pour himself some wine " All those girls were", i state. He took a big spin of wine before speaking " True, but I saw your hands, the shadows, you have special abilities Iris", " I also need your help, there is a war coming, and your abilities can help me win this war", I shake my head, " I don't even know how to use them, I can't even fly" His head snaps towards mine, " You can't fly?" he says, I shake my head. " Your going to begin working for my friend Azriel, in return we will keep you safe, teach you how to fly, and how to use your shadows", he says, he began pouring another cup of wine. He then handed it to me, I took a small sip out of the wine glass, I had never tasted something so gross but so intoxicating in my life. I cringe at the taste.

" Do we have a deal" he grabs my free hand, I thought about it, freedom, he was giving me freedom. I had never had freedom in my life, the thought scared me. " We do My lord", I felt a tingle on my chest, my gown was cut low so you could see some of my chest. There lied a tattoo made of swirls. I looked up at him, " Here we mark deals permanently" he said then winked. " if you would like me and my friends are going out, you could come", he asked, I shook my head, I believe I have had enough for today, " Very well then enjoy the rest of your day" he then winnowed away.

The rest of the day I stayed in my room, I tried on the different gowns, looked through jewelry that was in the vanity drawers. I tried summoning the shadows that Rhysand said I had, but none appeared. After I got bored of that I just stood on my patio, listening to the city below. The maids asked if I wanted to go dinner and eat with the rest of them, I declined. I didn't eat the dinner brought to me ether.

As I stripped from my gown, i could see the entirety of the tattoo, it was placed right in the middle of my breast, it ended midway down my stomach all the swirls meeting at one point. They weren't thick lines like Illyrian tattoos, no they were thine and elegant. I put on the same tank top and shorts from last night, and slid into bed.

That night...

Isidora, Iris, you can't hind from me !

Isidora placed her hand over my mouth, to keep me from yelping. A loud bang came from across the room. Isidora held me tighter. Tears started to slip from my eyes. It wasn't going to work, why would we think it was going to work. All of a sudden light shined into my eyes.

He had found us.

His hands flew for Isidoras face, I screamed. He then pulled her out of the chest. I was the only one left in the chest at this point, Isdoras body layed on the ground.

" Did you really think you could get away from me girl" he grabbed my arm, " No" " No" I screamed.

"Wake up", I heard in my head

" Wake Up" there it was again

My eyes shoot open, my panting filled the room, tears quickly ran down my face. I could have sworn I saw a figure in the corner of my room, but it quickly disappeared.

I didn't sleep the rest of the night, I just stared at the ceiling, lost in thought. That voice had pulled me out my dream, concern also lingered with the voice, as if it had feeling. Like a bond of some sort.
