Chapter 30
Blair's POV
4 years later
I did not ever expect my life to be what it is now. So much has happened since high school. Everything is different. I am different.
When my parents were found guilty on all their charges. My mom was sentenced to 50 years in federal prison and my father to 40 years in federal prison. Vanderbilt Enterprises was in a major crisis and was going to be shut down, but after talking to our lawyers we learned that me and my siblings could continue to run the company.
I used all the power I was given to find my sister Charlotte. I learned that she was living in Canada. Our parents had her sent to one of our private properties in the countryside of Canada. She only ever spent time with our workers. My parents made her do schooling at home and would send teachers to the house.
When I found out where my sister was I flew there immediately and brought her home. She was scared to return, but after I told her everything that happened and that our parents could not hurt any of us again she came with me. Me and her are now the ones running the family company. But we changed a lot and are doing business the correct way.
I also brought in my aunt Alice and Kendall to work at the company in controlling positions. They are part of the family and deserve a say in what goes on. I never liked that they were excluded from this for so many years when my mom was running things.
The court gave me custody of my little brother, but I talked to my aunt Alice and she agreed to have temporary custody of him so I could go to college. I trusted her with him because I know she is a great mom. This also allowed me to get my degree in business. I was also able to get my masters.
Since Charlotte was forced to do schooling she had a degree in economics. My parents also forced her to learn everything about our company, making her perfect to help me run it. During my time in college she and my aunt ran the company. When I graduated I came back and began working immediately. I went from being a recent graduate to being a co-ceo of a multi million company.
Everything in my life was looking up and feeling better than ever before, except for one thing. I didn't have the person that helped change my life. The person that made me feel the happiest and brought me peace. I didn't have Drew.
After Drew left she messaged me a day later. She couldn't tell me where she was but she told me she was good and safe. We would talk everyday when she wasn't working. The times she was on a mission I didn't hear from her much. Sometimes it would be weeks before I heard from her. Things were really hard, but we made it work. Until it didn't.
In the year that we were together I saw her four times in person. Every other time I could only see her on the phone or read her messages. I never gave up on us however. No matter how much I missed her and wished she was with me I knew that I could never ask her to not do what she loves. But I guess for her what we had wasn't worth it.
On one of the days that she was supposed to call me she never did. I got worried and reached out to her, but she didn't answer. I called and texted her about a hundred times. There was nothing I could do other than just wait for her to reply. I didn't have any other number to try or anyone to ask about her.
I received a call a few days later from an unknown number. It was Sloane. He told me that Drew was okay, that she is sorry that she didn't show up, then he told me something that made me feel as if all the air left my body. He told me that me and Drew can no longer be together. He said that things had to end. The last thing he told me is that I could no longer try to find or reach out to Drew. I had to forget about her.
He hung up the phone without saying anything else. I was left there heartbroken and alone. I didn't listen and kept calling until the number I was calling was no longer in service. She changed her number. I felt as if she ripped my heart out without even being the one who said the words to me.
I was heartbroken for months. Not wanting to see anyone or do anything. I fell behind on my studies a lot. It wasn't until Kendall came to my campus out of the blue. Her mom sent her to check on me since I hadn't talked to them and didn't visit during break.
I told Kendall that Drew and I broke up. She still doesn't know what Drew does, she just thinks that Drew moved because of what happened and that we were doing long distance. Kendall was the one that helped me to get over Drew and get back on track.
It took a lot to get over Drew, a year, but I did it. For the next two years I completed my studies, enjoyed my freedom, and went out a lot. I haven't been in another relationship since Drew, but I did start to see other people. And since I came out right after everything that happened in high school I no longer had to hide who I was. It made things a lot easier and better.
Now as I sit in my office I look out the window and feel almost completely at peace. I am happy with where my life is right now. I no longer hate the Vanderbilt name. I have the family I wish I had before. I don't hide myself anymore. And I get to do good with our company rather than bad.
"Ms. Vanderbilt your 3 o'clock is here" my assistant walks into my office distracting me from my thoughts.
"I don't recall having a meeting scheduled. Who is it?" I ask turning my attention fully to her.
"It's Ms. Brooks"
