It's been four nights in a row in which Kook keeps sensing Tae's precense. Sometimes it's a whisper, a sigh, a cry. It's getting on his nerves. Because what he really wants to hear is his friend's laugh. Ideally, he would love to see him all together. He has to find a way to communicate. He no longer wonders if he's crazy. It doesn't matter any way. He's sure of what his ears have heard these days. It's almost 3 AM when the light in Tae's room turns on. He's there. Even if he can't see him, he calls his name.- Tae? If it's you give me a signal! Anything!
Nothing happens.
- Okay, if you're the ghost from upstairs, this is the wrong apartment buddy. Don't play with my heart!
Again, no answer. Jungkook rests his head against the wall, tired. The night before, he heard someone moving the chairs in the kitchen but by the time he got there it all stopped. Is he always gonna get late to everything? He spent hours googling how ghosts work but there's too many theories. Some of them make it sound like Tae's a demon that will drive him crazy and curse his apartment. But even if that happens, Jungkook wouldn't regret it as long as he gets to see Tae again.
He sighs and lifts his hand to turn off the light when he notices something that wasn't there before. Tahyung's diary is open on top of the bed with a sentence written on it. As jungkook gets closer he can see the ink is starting to disappear making him read as fast as possible before it slips away from him.
I miss you, Kookie
Kook misses no time looking for a pen. Cursing for not having one in his pocket at all times. As soon as he finds one he rushes back to the room to write him back. He wants to answer how much he missed him back. But by the time he's back in the room with the pen, the diary is back on its place and the page where Tae wrote is blank.
Talk to me Tae. I'll listen. Appear. I'll hug you.
He sits on the bed and waits thinking Tae will answer but obviously nothing happens. His eyes never look away from the diary hoping a new sentence will appear. The hours keep passing and he can't sleep while googling for new ideas. Honestly, he would love to get some help on this. But considering his friends keep leaving messages on his answering machine asking him to let it go, he believes he'll have to do it alone.
The perfect time to buy a ghost detecting machine is definitly at 4.30 AM as the young boy in the apartment is doing. Looking for the one with best recommendations, he decides for the expensive one. It's an expense worth taking if it actually works. When his credit card gets declined he rolls his eyes. Ugh, just because he hasn't gone to work since the accident doesn't mean they should cancel his card like that! Trying not to feel guilty, he steals Tae's card from his nightstand. It's not like he was gonna use it anyway.
- I'll pay you back when I see you again, Tae. Hell, I'll pay you three times the worth of this if I actually get to see you
For a moment he thinks he'll be able to stay awake all night until the package arrives and he can start his plans. But it's impossible. His eyes close on their own and he falls asleep in the middle of the living room. As always, his dreams are nothing but memories of the happiest time of his life...
- Chek it out! - Tae smiled - I bought one for each!
- Diaries? Uh, I guess I could note the doctor's appointments so I don't forget
- Don't be stupid, Kookie. It's to write our secrets!
- Wooow, are you keeping secrets from me Kim Taehyung?
Jungkook's playing tone made Tae blush and look away. The younger couldn't even begin to imagine the kind of things Tae wanted to write there. To his surprise, his friend kept writing every night never showing Jungkook those secret pages.
- I think you'll run out of pages before I even start using mine, Tae
- That's because you talk too much instead of writing it. There must be something you never told anyone!
- Nope
- Something you're scared to say out loud maybe?
Jungkook stared into those eyes and smirk. Thinking about how much he would like to kiss him right there. And only then he picked up his diary to write something making his friend open his eyes wide. As he was writing, Tae was trying to take a peek.
- Ah-Ah, I never said you could read it, Tae. Sorry not sorry
- Hummm, fine. I'm glad you finally use it though!
- For the last time probably
- Hey! It was a good present!
- Sure but...I don't need to write this again. I have it present on my mind constantly. Every hour of everyday.
If Jungkook would've shown him back then, things would be different right now. Even in that exact moment, when Tae was rolling his eyes at his attitud, he could've told him what he felt. After all, Tae's diary was filled mostly with words of love for him. But Kook had no idea about it and the fear of getting rejected made him keep it a secret until the last moment.
In his sleep, Jungkook smiles. Just to remember everything Tae used to. Buying him presents, wanting to know everything he could hide, the sassy attitude that could turn sweet and caring in a millisecond. All of it plays all over again in his head. And tomorrow he'll try to find him again. Lucky for him, he might get someone else to help him for once...
