Jungkook begins his morning with half his body on top of the kitchen table. He fell asleep there last night and he doesn't have the energy to move. The idea of having something to drink sounds completely out of place. He's not hungry or thirsty and as usual he finds himself thinking about Tae again.

He misses spending the morning together before going to work. Tae's sleepy eyes and casual clothes as he started his day. Always begging Jungkook to make him breakfast because he hated doing it himself. Just remembering that makes him sigh with his head still resting on the table

- Why did I always complain when you asked me that? Like I didn't love making you breakfast. I loved you so much, Tae...

A loud crashing sound makes him look up. Tae's special cup broke into pieces falling on the floor. That can only mean one thing. His best friend is there again. Without a second to lose he takes the ghost detecting machine to follow his track. The beeping sound guides him towards the phone. And even though he can't see Tae, he follows an impulse and picks up the phone. Then, that voice he loves so much sounds. The words keep cutting but to hear him again makes his soul feel full for once

- I hear-...lov-...can't und-...why-...Kookie-

His voice fades and together with it the beeping sound. Jungkook can't get used to those moments where his friend slips away from him all over again. He stays silent with the phone on his hands. The lump in his throat ready to make him explode in tears. Someone knocks on the door but he doesn't move. He stays on the phone waiting to hear his voice one more time. The door opens and Jimin touches his shoulder softly trying for him to react.

- Kookie...are you okay?

- No...

- I can wait outside if you need a moment

The youngest denies with his head before hanging up the phone. He tells him what just happened without skipping any details and trying his best not to cry.

- I wonder...if he heard me when I said I loved him...

- Is that what you keep thinking about?

- He died before I could ever tell him that. He never heard me say I loved him. I couldn't...I didn't have the time to tell I wanted to live with him forever, sharing a room so I could wake up by his side every morning. I wanted to make him breakfast, argue about the dumbest things, peel his perilla leaves, kiss him goodnight. I never told him he was the love of my life, the reason for me to smile. I couldn't...I n-never...

He breaks down. Feeling his heart break into pieces with all the words that are being heard by the wrong person. Jimin tries to comfort him but the mere contact makes Jungkook think who he really wants to have by his side. They spend the afternoon sitting by the table and crying. Jungkook keeps the machine on hoping to get another signal but at least for now that's not happening.

- Kook...Do you think that's what's missing?

- Hmm?

- You telling him what you feel. You never got the chance to say it and ghosts tend to stay for an unfinished business.

- What makes you think that?

- I don't know...The apartment above has had a ghost for the last hundred years. He never left. If someone could hear what he has to say instead of moving out...maybe he could rest in peace

- Or maybe it's haunted and the apartment has a demon cursing it

- Sure, I'm not a ghost scientist. It's just a theory

- Do you think Tae...You think he's waiting for my answer to his confession?

- All I'm saying is the story you two had ended up with an open ending. He said "I love you" and you couldn't give him an answer to that. Maybe if you do...

He doesn't finish the phrase but Jungkook knows what he's implying. Even if he doesn't answer, that stays in his head for the rest of the day. When the night falls and Jimin left him alone again, he walks up to Tae's room. It feels emptier than ever. He falls asleep on that bed for a few hours.

Suddenly, in the middle of the night he hears the bathroom door open. As he follows the sound he can hear the shower is on as well as the bathroom light. When he enters he can see Tae's silhouette behind the curtain. He takes a step forward and licks his dry lips to talk. To tell him those words stuck in his throat.

But the voice doesn't come out. Because he knows. If he says it...Tae could leave him. This time forever. No more ways to see or connect with him again. He stays there, only staring at the figure before it fades as usual. And he simply wonders...if he stays quiet...will Tae stay with him forever? Isn't that worth it?
