My name is Y/N L/N
I'm a journalist from The New York Times
I was NOT bitten by a radioactive spider, but fell in love with someone who was.
My story's a little different from the rest.
So let's start at the beginning.
The chemical waste spill, who's to blame?... You quickly deleted the previous sentence putting your head in your hands with frustration. It was your first week at this new job and immediately you had writer's block. You had to come up with some story to publish even if it was something small. This was going to be your first story. This was going to get your name out in the world. This was going to start the rest of your career... If you ever got a good story, your brain was still stuck on the chemical waste spill from a few years ago. You couldn't help but think there was more to it. Who was behind it? And who was this Spider guy who appeared shortly after? It couldn't be a simple coincidence.
But no one cares about that anymore and if you tried to link Spiderman and that chemical spill without solid evidence, that may as well be the end of your career.
Anxiously tapping your pen on the table you waited for some. For any inspiration to hit you... Anything at all.
"You coming Y/N?", Snapping out of your daze you turned to face your friend.
"Lost in thought? Or no ideas?", They joked pulling you from your desk."No ideas", you replied simply as your friend Janice dragged you out of the depressing room of grey cubicles and sterile lighting.
"So tell me what are you trying to write?", They asked as you began your journey to your favorite lunch spot.
"Anything. I need an article to get my name out to the world. My boss has to like it. The public has to like it. I just don't know what to write about", you rambled. Reaching the little cafe you took a seat at the small booth the workers reserved for you everyday. They got so used to you and Janice sitting there everyday they started placing a reserved sign on it for you.
"What about the cost of living?"
"Boring"
"Chemical spill?", They suggested
"No one would care"
"How about... How about that spider guy?"
"Do you know anything about him?", You questioned sarcastically
"Well no"
"And besides there's nothing new to report on him anyway" just as you finished your sentence a police car flew by the window... Followed by a second and a third each ones sirens blaring.
"Not yet there's not. Let's go", she said enthusiastically grabbing your arm and dragging you out onto the street following the sound of sirens. You never knew how they did it but Janice was incredibly fast you found yourself stumbling every few seconds but they kept their pace pulling you along. Until you reached the smoking building. You could barely see what was going on but managed to make out that Spiderman was fighting... What looked like an octopus?
Glancing to your side you noticed Janice practically jumping with joy the deafening sound of gunshots and sirens prevented you from hearing what she said.
Trying to read her lips it looked like she said "this is it...? Get closer? Write notes?" You weren't sure it was something along those lines though. Not sure what to do you hesitated a moment before Janice grabbed your arm and dragged toward the building. Fortunately a police officer grabbed you and redirected you and Janice The other way. You could barely tell what was happening with the conflict, in this brief moment of confusion your friend took your arm again leading you around to the back of the building.
"We shouldn't be doing this Janice. It's dangerous", you worried as they took you to one of the emergency exits.
"You wanted to make a name for yourself. This is how you do it", they replied entering the building leaving you behind.
Everything in you told you it was dangerous that you shouldn't go. Yet there was still this little voice partially curious, but mostly worried for JaniceWithout wasting another moment being paranoid you entered the desolate building. An industrial stairwell awaited each step you took echoed throughout the building.
"Janice", You called out. No response.
"Janice!", You called again this time louder but still heard nothing in return. Knowing them they're be waiting to scare you somewhere. Continuing up the stairs you heard a loud thud from one of the nearby floors.
"I swear to god Janice, this isn't funny", following the source of the sound you came to a door leading to the main part of the building. Another loud this on the other side caused you to hesitate, your heart jumped with fear. Taking a few steps away from the door prepared to run you called out to your friend once more.
"Janice?"
As soon as you uttered their name the door was thrown open but not by Janice.
Although wearing a mask you saw their face change to one of shock. His eyes widened his mask reflecting the expression you assumed he wore.
"What are you doing here?!" He yelled his voice filled with concern. You panicked you struggled to find your words to explain.
"The building isn't safe you need to leave", he continued but before you could flee the door burst open once more this time a man with long mechanical arms emerged, a sinister look on his face.
Frozen with fear you felt a grip on your waist and the muffled sound of "hold on".
Barely processing their words you felt your feet leave the ground bringing you back to reality. You wrapped your arms around the hero as you quickly flew by the floors. Your heart was beating out of your chest it was like flying but somehow scarier."I'm going to drop you at one of these floors don't move, or make a sound", he ordered
"What? What do you mean drop?"
"On three", he continued completely ignoring your question as he began counting however instead of staying try to his previous statement he threw you to the nearest floor on two.
You managed to stay on your feet for the landing but it still scared the life out of you. Moving away from the railing of the stairwell you watched as the guy with mechanical arms flew by the floor you were on.
The sound of clanging metal continued to echo each time sounding more and more distant. Feeling a slight sense of relief you sat against the wall slowly bringing yourself back to reality.
A few minutes flew by and the building was filled with silence. You weren't sure if you should leave or just stay where you were. Whilst you waited you took out your notepad and began making quick scribbles of notes that you could write about. After your brief interaction your heart was filled with curiosity. You hadn't cared who was behind the mask until now.
Before I post this I have already written the entire story, when I do post it I will be editing little details and hopefully posting 1 or 2 chapters per week. I'm actually worried about posting this as I've written 50 chapters and I hope this story is successful on here. Also I have invested a lot of time into this and now it's finished I don't know what to do with myself.
