Hobie pov~
I felt my heart drop when I found her. Janice lifeless body lay in the stairwell, her eyes vacant and all life drained from her face. I'll have to get back to Y/N sooner rather than later, she saw this. Witnessing the death of a friend was scarring for anyone, but something so brutal could traumatise someone for life."Vultures been sent back to HQ with Jess. You should come back Hobie. As annoying as you are, you're one of our best", Miguel said paying little mind to the lifeless body.
"I made my decision Miguel"
"I know that, but with Y/N dead there should be nothing keeping you here"
His words sent a chill down my spine. Did he not know what Y/N looked like?"Y/N is still alive", I replied turning to face Miguel, I saw his face twist into one of shock for a moment.
"What do you mean? The canon says she was supposed to die a few weeks ago", he continued bringing up Lyla to show the canon.
"The canon is wrong"
"It can't be Hobie. Y/N is supposed to die. She needs to", he continued.
"Well she's not going to"
"The canon can't be broken Hobie. You know this! Do you want your universe to unravel!? Do you want everyone here to Die!?", he continued still fixated on the canon.
"The canon isn't broken! My universe isn't unravelling, if she's alive that's how it's supposed to be", I was done with this conversation. I was tired of him trying to tell me how things should be. The canon was wrong and that was all.
"You know what has to happen", he called out.
I knew what he was saying but I wouldn't let it happen.
"You won't lay a finger on her Miguel"
"It's what has to happen-"
"You don't know that. If it happens it won't be by your hand Miguel. I won't let anything happen to her"
I'd heard stories of what Miguel was willing to do to keep the canon. It ruined lives, but people just accepted it. I won't. This is my universe, my story I'll decide how it goes.
"Your universe could unravel. Do you understand that" he called out once more. But I had no more to say to him. If it was going to unravel it would have started already, the canon can change at any moment based off the decisions we make.
"If you ever come back here Miguel. I'll kill you"
Normal Pov~
You woke up in Hobies arms his hands running through your hair in a comforting manner. You quickly remembered the previous events. It wasn't a dream. Your eyes stung from crying, your chest ached at the thought of Janice. You still couldn't believe it.
"How are you feeling?", he asked placing a kiss on top of your head.
"Im not sure yet... I don't know how to feel", you replied. He nodded in response continuing to run his hands through your hair.
"It's going to be ok", he explained still trying to comfort you.
You couldn't imagine what he had seen, you knew he'd lost people before. It was "part of the canon". If anyone would understand it would be him.
"We can't save everyone Y/N. It's a part of life, but that doesn't make things easier", he continued.Things were going to be different from now on.
Janices funeral was tough you couldn't shake the guilt. As much as Hobie tried to reassure you leading up to the funeral the guilt continued to eat away at you. Her parents were distraught, you couldn't bare to look at them. Janice had told you once before she didn't want people to be sad at her funeral, she wanted people to be happy. To remember that she lived life to the fullest, to remember the person she was. Yet everytime you tried to think of those it only hurt more. She shouldn't have died that day. There were things they always wanted to do, to see. They still had so much life left and it was all taken too soon.
You felt like this guilt would destroy you forever.Although it was tough you recovered slowly. Of course you still thought about Janice and it saddened you each time. But living was getting easier each passing day. As the seasons changed you found yourself gradually getting better.
Hobie spent a lot of time at home with you after Janice's death. As much as you tried to tell him that you'd be fine if he did his job, he never believed you even months later."You know the city needs you more than I do", you told him as you saw him react to a sense.
"You know I care about you more than the city", he replied giving little care to the potential danger, placing a kiss on your cheek.
"That's sweet and all Hobie, but you have a job", you joked as he wrapped his arms around placing kisses along your neck. He hummed in response ignoring your statement. Pulling away from your neck for moment you placed a kiss on his lips carefully moving your hands to his hair, deepening the kiss. His arms moved to your waist pulling you in close. The moment was brought to an end as you heard a blaring siren.
"Alright, enough of that. Go do your job", you pulled away from his lips giving him a light shove. You saw him roll his eyes with irritation as he left the room for a moment.
He returned in his suit holding his mask. He wore an unamused expression. You gave him a smile before placing another quick kiss to his lips. You quickly pushed him away once more gesturing to the window.
He let out a sigh of defeat before pulling on his mask, giving you one last look climbing out the window."I love you", you called out giving him a wave.
"Yeah, yeah I love you too Y/N", he said before waving you over to the open window. Pulling up the bottom of his mask he pressed his lips to yours once more his hand on the back of your neck.
Pulling away he gave you one final smirk before pulling his mask back down and dropping from the wall.
