lumity mermaid/siren AU

The sea was quiet. No ships in sight, no birds stealing food. Just quiet.

"AMITY!!!" so much for quiet.

"You might wanna get a move on, mom sounds pretty mad." her older sister said from the doorway.

The pair quickly swam to the living room where sure enough they're very angry mother was.

"What did I do now?" amity mumbled.

"What have I told you time and time again young lady!" her mother yelled

"Not to go past the reef?"

"Exactly! And what did you do?"

"Go past the reef."

"Tell me why in poseidon name you would do that! You know what's out there!"

"No actually I don't! I don't know anything about what's out there besides the reef! You have said it yourself that the cove beyond the reef has magic beyond our comprehension! What's so bad about wanting to find it!" 

Odalia's tail swished back and forth in anger as her husband crept up behind her. "Odlaia."

"Alador talk some sense into your daughter." alador just stared blankly at his daughters before amity pushed past him with emeria and edric not far behind.

"Wow you actually shut her up. I'm impressed." edric said.

"What could be so bad out there." amity asked.

"Sirens. You know that squirt." Emeria said.

Amity sighed and thought back to a long time ago, to the first time she came to the reef with her older siblings. 

"Slow down, squirt!" edric yelled as he cased after a young amity.

"Catch up you big dingus!" amity yelled.

"Why did we agree to bring her here?" odalia huffed.

"You promised her you would take her to the reef when she got her tail color. And we don't back out on promises." alador reminded his wife

As the blight family reached the coral barrier, Amity looked out to sea in wonder. "What's out there?" she asked her big sister.

"Sirens, ships, humans, all kinds of horrible things." her sister said, attempting to scare the young mermaid.

"I wanna meet a siren some day."

"You will do no such thing amity blight! They are monsters. Now this is enough, we are going home." odalia yelled. 

"Amity!" amity snapped out of her flashback to the terrified screams of her siblings. She was past the reef..

"SIRENS!" amity looked up as sirens rushed by her, their loud voices and sharp scales ripping through the water. She tried to swim back but was knocked back by a large body swimming right by her. Her sibling's voices began to grow quieter until the world around her went black.

Muffled voices began to fill her ears. "I think she's waking up?" Amity opened her eyes to see a dark purple face staring at her. The figure had lilac skin with what looked like dark purple hair. Their skin got darker until it reached their tail which got darker the farther down it went. As amity's vision cleared she got a closer look at the figure, she noticed features she hadn't seen before, the figure had large spiked ears and gills much larger than her own, it was smiling showing long sharp teeth. All at once the panic hit her.

"YOU'RE A SIREN!" she screamed attempting to back away.

"You're alive!" the beast in front of her smiled. 

Looking around, Amity noticed that they were not alone. There were other sirens around staring at the frightened mermaid. Speaking in chitters and growls that she couldn't understand.

"Are you hurt?"

"Where am i?" Amity asked.

"You're in siren territory, young one." an older siren said.

"Oh no... I'm too far from the reef! Moms gonna kill me. I don't know the way home. I'm so screwed!"

The purple siren turned to the older siren and with a series of chitters asked a question.

"I'll tell eda you won't be home till morning. Stay safe." The older siren placed their head against the purple siren's forehead before the rest of the sirens swam off.

"I'm luz! By the way!" The lilac siren smiled as they swam towards the mermaid's home. 

"Amity."

Luz kept circling the young mermaid with starry eyes.

"Why do you keep doing that?"

"I've never met a mermaid before! I never knew you were so pretty!" Amity's face began to turn redder than a lobster. "You change colors too?!"

"No we don't!" Amity tried to swim faster but it was futile; the larger siren easily caught up.

"So do all mermaids wear pearls?" luz asked.

Amity looked down at her aquamarine and orchid purple tail and the ring of pearls that circled up and down her tail. "No. and they aren't pearls. They're bubbles. Now you've asked me a lot of questions so I have one for you! What are you! You're huge!"

"Thank you! I'm a cove siren! We're twice the size of normal sirens. Faster too."

As they got closer to the cove amity expected luz to stop swimming but as she looked back she saw luz had changed her appearance. "How'd you do that!" 

"Oh it's easy! We can shape shift a bit. Can't get rid of the webbing between my fingers though." her once lilac colored scaled body was not replaced by tan skin, her dark purple hair was replaced with short dark brown hair. "So are you an upper class mermaid?" luz asked as they swam through the city.

"What gave it away?" amity asked sarcastically as they approached the blight manor.

"AMITY!" her sibling came barreling out the door and pulled their sister in a hug.

"I'm okay! Now get off me!" their mother waited in the door frame, her tail angrily swishing behind her. Luz followed amity inside.

"Who is this?" odalia asked.

"Her name is luz. She helped me back after I got swept out past the reef in the siren attack." luz stayed slightly behind amity as her mother began to tear into her daughter.

"I have told you time and time again to not go near the reef. And every day you go by the reef! Amity blight, why do you never THINK!" odalia got extremely close to amity and continued to scream. "DO YOU WANT TO END UP DEAD? YOU KNOW WHAT'S OUT THERE! AND IF YOU WONT LISTEN I WILL MAKE YOU!" odalia lifted her hand to slap amity but just before she made contact a rush of water swished by them as they watched in awe and horror. Surrounded by dark purple light was luz, having transformed from her mermaid form back to siren. Her claw made holes in the wall as she pinned odalia to the wall. Her fangs on display as she snarled in the adult mermaid's face. Her spines fully extended and the whites of her eyes turned fully black.

"Don't. Touch. My. Amity." luz said with venom in her voice.
