Eda sighed as she entered the school finishing up a phone call.

"Yes, I'll get him. Yes darius i will feed him! I'm not gonna starve the kid just cause it's not my night! No you have to get him from my house. I have luz. I know I always have luz. But I have luz and lilly is out of town so i can't. Ok I have to go." eda hung up the phone and went inside the school "I'm here to sign out hunter clawthorn-deamonne. And for the parent teacher meeting with luz clawthorn."

"You can head down to their classroom to pick them up. The office lady said as she typed on her computer.

Eda walked down the hallway to the second grade classroom knocking on the door before walking in to not see her children's normal teacher.

"Oh hello! Ms. Clawthorn, right? Nice to meet you, Raine whispers." The adult smiled and reached their hand out for eda to shake.

"Yeah nice to meet you. So why am I here?"

Raine motioned to their desk and they took a seat.

"So as you can tell I'm not the normal teacher. Im the long term sub and im the music teacher. I wanted to talk about luz."

"Oh lord. Here we go."

"So in her file it states that she is adopted. Does she have contact with her biological parents?"

"Both were killed in a house fire. Luz has only been with me for about a year."

"I see. With luz she has what we call an overactive imagination. She is smart but her imagination is holding her back. She gets distracted easily and sometimes doesn't do her work and instead will begin drawing or writing stories. We are worried that if this continues that she will fall behind."

"I'm working with her to focus. I'll try and figure out how to deal with the imagination."

"I am supposed to recommend that she be tested to see if she is neurodivergent. And while you're here, are you the mother of hunter?"

"Mother no. legal guardian. Yes, I'm one of them. He's technically my nephew. Why?"

"Wonderful. I recommend you get him tested as well. He is showing possible signs of autism. I just wanted to make sure he gets the care he needs to thrive." Raine smiled at eda as Luz ran over.

"Mx. Raine! Look!" Luz held a paper up high, handing it to raine.

"Thank you luz. It's wonderful." raine took the picture and pinned it on a wall full of child drawings.

As eda was buckling the kids in she noticed raine leaving as well and went to speak with them,

"Thanks for advocating for hunter. With everything that's been going on I didn't even think about getting him tested."

"No problem. I always want to make sure my students have the best chance of learning possible."

Eda countied to do in person pickup for the kids for a while. Getting to know their teacher better.

"Mx Raine is the best! They tell us stories all the time. And they teach music too! So specials are really fun! Is hunter staying?" luz said as they drove back home.

"No, it's Darius's night with hunter. So you'll see each other at school the next day."

Eda Clawthorn, 39. Single mother of three. She ran a small business and made a good living. She had two adopted children, luz 8, and king, 2. She also had a nephew who she had partial custody of hunter 8. Hunter's co-parent Darius Deamonne was Hunter's foster father during the custody battle between eda and her great uncle who originally had custody of hunter. Eda came into custody of Luz after her parents passed away. Eda was her foster mother and Luz got attached so eda adopted her. She found king abandoned in a box so she took him in as well. Her sister lives with her part of the year and helps her with the kid by doing pickup and drop off.
