TW: violence, death (its minor)

The darkest of nights were when all of the monsters could come out. But on new moons were when the fun really started. Every new moon was when the little monsters and their parents could meet.

"Eda? Can I go say hello?" a young harpy asked perched high in a tree.

"Yeah I guess. I'll stay here." The older harpy woman stayed hidden in the dark of the trees. Harpys were few and far between. The older harpy known as eda didn't even know another harpy besides her adoptive daughter luz. The older monster's pair was a center named Raine; the two looked after the little harpy luz after finding her alone. Hunters had taken both her parents

Luz was a sweet kid but lonely. Making friends was hard, harpy's were strange creatures amongst the monster kind.

Luz ran around to all of the monster children playing on the old abandoned human school playground. Most of them didn't look at her but a few did.

A shapeshifter named Augustus took a liking to her and even took her form same with another shifter named Vee. a plant demon named willow raced her up a tree and they had a lot of fun but luz really like a young vampire named amity.

"Hello!" luz yelled when she saw the young vampire reading on the rusty monkey bars. The young vampire tried to walk away even going upside down under the slide to try and escape the big fluffy child to no avail.

"What do you want?" the young vampire asked.

"A friend?"

"What even are you?" the young vampire asked.

"I'm a harpy!" the young best smiled.

"You have fangs!" the little vampire smiled.

The little fanged pair smiled and talked under the old rusty slide until luz was dragged out by the ear of some older vampire.

"FILTHY VERMIN! STAY AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER!" That's when eda stepped in. getting between luz and the adult vampire.

"Keep your filthy hands off my kid odalia!" eda roared. Spreading her wings to keep a barrier between the vampires and luz. The other monsters stared at eda in fear and some in horror. They didn't understand. They never would.

"Eda. I think it's time to go." raine said. "Come on sweetie." raine lifted Luz up and carried the sad little harpy away.

"Maybe it's best that pests like you stay away." the vampire yelled after them. Like always no other creature came to their defense.

Even amongst monsters they were strange. A golden harpy, a Centaur, and a young harpy chick.

Growing up luz learned the difference between the hunters. Monster hunters left traps and used mostly rope and weapons. Harpy hunters used chains and guns, no fancy traps or tricks. She also learned why the monsters didn't like harpies. To monsters harpies were considered the product of demons and humans mixing. They were too human for some and too beastly for others. Luz didn't mind her little family, Raine sang to them and played many instruments. Eda protected them and was the best mother she could have asked for.

Her own parents had been killed when she was way too little eda had swooped in and grabbed her before the hunters could see her; she had lived with raine and eda ever since.

She learned how to survive from eda, how to hunt and fly silently in the dead of night but most importantly she taught her how to be a harpy beast.

Harpies had two forms their normal which had wings, talons on their feet and feathers everywhere. Their beast forms were much larger and much scarier. They had four large legs with paws and sharp claws, a mix of feather and fur and even tails. Luz's own beast form is much smaller than eda's and is even spotted.
