Haleb: Where it all began

Where Have You Been?

I couldn't see properly. My eyes were so painfully sore that they only opened a little. I just assumed it was my mum as she was the only one in the house with me.

"Hey Mum," tears of happiness streaming down my face.

"Why are you crying?" she asks.

"Oh it's happy tears," I say, "I had a dream that he was here! He was alive and that he was next to me, looking at my pictures and my locket."

I sigh. I know that will never ever happen again.

"Han," she says.

"Wha- wait what did you call me?" I must be going crazy.

"I said, Han. I need to tell you something," she says.

Caleb?

I'm just dreaming. Or hallucinating. O-or...

"That wasn't a dream, Han," he says, "I'm here."

Caleb? Caleb!!! He's here! He's alive! He's actually alive!

I try as hard as I can to pry my eyelids open, but they wouldn't listen. I sigh again but my breath catches in my throat as he picks me up from my bed, holds me in the air and says, "You don't know how much I've missed you Han."

"Where have you been?" I whimper.

"Hospital. I was screaming for you but you weren't there and I couldn't be released yet," he tells me.

"I-I...I thought you..." I start sobbing again.

He gives me a massive hug in his strong arms and holds me tight.

I'm so overjoyed that he is here! My heart and spirits lift and I hug him back, crying hot tears of happiness.

"I'm so driving you to and from school, Caleb!" I say.

"Not with those eyes your not," he looks at me and winces, "I think we should ask your mum for an ice pack."

Caleb has one crutch under one arm and me under the other. I feel happier than I have in the past month walking down these stairs. I see my Mum's jaw drop when she sees Caleb, who is asking me about my eyes.

"You-you were the one that she-"

"Mum!"

Caleb looks at me curiously.

"Sorry dear," my Mum says.

Yeah I told my Mum.

"Mrs Marin could I have an ice pack for your beautiful daughter?" he grins at me.

My stomach flutters inside and I lean on his shoulder.

My Mum goes to the freezer and pulls out a bag of frozen vegetables, "Sorry honey but this is all we have."

"That'll do," he says and we both sit down on the stairs as he tends to my eyes.

Aww....hint hint Caleb! You know you love her!
