BLÜDHAVEN
1:12 PM LOCAL TIMEIt was a Saturday afternoon and Mar'i Grayson was bored. A football game was not until tomorrow so she didn't have cheer, her friends were out at work or with their families and her father had left two days ago to visit a friend.
They talked on the phone, she told him things she had seen while on patrol and gave him messages that would be left for him by the landlord.
A sitcom was on in the background as she dusted the apartment. Jin, her black cat stretched out on the couch sunbathing.
"You could help lazy butt," she said to the cat.
He purred in response, his eyes closed.
She huffed and opened her fridge.
"Jin we are out of milk!" She announced.
The cat made no response. Mar'i sighed and grabbed her hologram, she switched it on. She looked in the envelope full of cash that her father had left.
She grabbed her phone and keys, "I'm going out man the fort soldier."
Jin continued to sleep and she closed the door to the apartment.
She walked down to the market nodding as she passed people. This was a type of freedom she did not have back home on Tamaran. She couldn't just leave the palace and walk around - she would have to be escorted. She used to sneak out sometimes not for any devious reason she did it because her mother told her not to. Eventually, she did get caught and was scolded. Not that, that deterred her.
She wandered around the supermarket aimlessly. Mary let her fingers run over packaged loaves of bread. She stopped.
"I need mac and cheese..." she whispered to herself and went down an aisle.
One box left... before she could grab it a white hand with multiple rings on each of the slender fingers grabbed it. Mary glanced at the hand and then the person it belonged to.
A boy a couple of years older than her with pale skin dressed in all black and a suitcase. He had headphones in but she couldn't hear anything that was playing. The boy had strong cheekbones and dark black hair.
"Um hi, I need that..." She said pointing at the box in the boys' hands.
He took off his headphones (even though he could hear her perfectly she knew it) and raised a brow.
"What?" He asked in a light airy voice.
"The box... I need it?"
"What you're gonna die if you don't have mac and cheese?" he scoffed.
"Maybe."
"Yeah well I haven't eaten since yesterday so..." he sniffed.
"We can split it." Mary offered.
