I was once a Hare

Once the hare

Easy or hard.

Sturdy or un sturdy.

Start the way up

Only to realize the shoes are a problem

So go barefoot.

Only to end up with shoes on hands

On all fours crawling up the slick trail

Little by little crawling through life.

May slide a little but sturdy to

Racing up the hill on all fours

Ignoring the pain of the sharp rocks on knees

Than, than it happens

Standing on two feet

Feet slide it in the mud

Not sturdy but not on all fours.

Race up the trail sliding,

Cussing in pain

Swiftly climb through the mud rocks and twigs

Every now and then move to the edge of the trail

Catching the balance.

But at what cost

Keep climbing

Stumbling up the hill trying to find balance

Frozen solid

Melted and muddy

Riddled with rocks

Riddled with twigs and sharp sticks

There's no way but through the mud

Climb, and climb some more

Trying to avoid the pain

Screaming when felt

Cursing the hurt

Each stage of the trail no different than life itself

Reaching a recognizable spot

Pause

Breathe

Oh so close to the finish line

Two trails never noticed before.

Ponder

Smile

Paths in life that never taken

Paths that would have stalled life

Thank you

A deep breath in

Slowly walking again

Mud everywhere

Feet hurt

Feet frozen

Feet muddy

Tears flooding

This time walk with intention

Slow

Not to avoid the pain of the rocks or twigs

But to embrace them with the cushion of the mud.

To learn their thoughtful lessons

The ground frozen

Snow covered

Muddy

Slick

Treacherous

Yet so beautiful

Tears

Joy

Laughter

All while walking through the earth

Learning her lessons

Learning to pause to breathe

Learning to enjoy the beautiful view

Learning to take in the beauty

Learning to bask in its glory

Learning to stay rooted in the present

Continue on

Going further than before

Past the presumed finish line

Keep going

Realizing sometimes the side of the path is a soft landing to view the hurt

Much like observing surroundings in peace

Other times it's even more painful than walking in the mud.

Keep going

Admiring the view

Walking

Walking

Alone

A pair walks past

No words exchanged

They talk and pass

They giggle to each other

Did you see that

No shoes

What are they doing

In that moment smile

Not just because they giggled

But for self

Smile because they do not understand

Do not understand the trial.

Do not understand the determination

Do not understand the hurt

Do not understand the sorrow

Do not understand the anger

Do not understand the joy

Do not understand self

Do not understand self validation

For self is the greatest opponent

Continue to fight through the pain

The hurt

The frozen ground

The snow

Cross the rocky man made road

Much like the treachery we create

Cross it

To the muddy trail

A way less traveled

Climb

Slick

Muddy

Further than ever gone before

Climbing the steep hill

Sliding again and again

Refusing not to go back

Reaching the steepest part

Somehow back on all fours

Slower than before

Refusing to give up

Climb

Making it to two feet again

Walking the rest

To the top

Everything is inside

Never give up

Now embracing the tortoise

Slow

Intentional

Loving

Peaceful

Enjoying the journey
