Chapter 26 - investigation

"Your father was right Chaeyoung... My father wanted to control everything, he and the Sages were fooling everyone... That's why I want to destroy their system, no more kings...",

Jungkook and Chaeyoung were in her parent's house. After Mingyu told him everything about the assassination attempts Jungkook decided to meet him and tell him another truth, this time in her presence.

"I always knew that your father was a jerk, no offense, but to hide out the truth about your child and then put him in danger their lives just to keep ruling? That is beyond my expectations...",

"I am sorry for lying to you and Chaeyoung, I needed to do so to fool him so he won't try to stop me...", he explained, and he sounded sincere. But Chaeyoung feels that he still hides something and doesn't tell the whole truth.

"Alright kid, let's put that aside, Mingyu told me he caught one of these assassins when he tried to kill your brother in the hospital, did you get anything out of him?"

"We can't, those people are fanatics, and he won't speak even if he wants to, his tongue is cut...",

Chaeyoung covered her mouth in horror, Her fear was sensed by Jungkook, so he covered her hand with his, stroking gently her skin, thus assuring her that she was safe and that there was no need for her to be afraid.

"I've heard about this group of killers, the only reason you guys are alive is luck... We need to find a way to make him talk...",

"If only Jeongkook was awake...", he said with a sigh, only after seconds he realized that he said it out loud

"What do you mean?", she asked confused

To Jungkook's luck, his phone buzzed, and he took it out to respond, only it wasn't the news he expected to hear.

Jungkook walked into the room where Ari was lying in alarm and ran straight to her bed, Chaeyoung followed and unlike him saw that Sejeong was there too and despite not having the warmest feelings for each other, Chaeyoung greeted her with a reassuring smile.

"Mom, how are you?" he asked as he ran directly into her open arms waiting for him.

"Jungkook, your father...",

"I know... Chaeyoung's father is taking care of it... What happened to my gorgeous mom?", he asked cocky and that made her smile a little. Ari looks at Sejeong with pleading eyes signing that she wants to talk about something personal with Jungkook.

"We will leave you alone... so you can talk...", Sejeong said getting her message and left with Chaeyoung.

"I wanted to tell you about Sejeong and...",

"I know... I know everything... and that doesn't change anything, you're still my mother, the one who raised me and loved me like her own...", he kissed her hand and smiled lovingly at her

"Good God, I was afraid that you would hate me...", her eyes watered, and she let out a relieved breath.

"There is nothing that can make me hate you... Everything will be okay...", he said as he kissed her forehead. He stayed with her till she fell asleep.

Later that day Chaeyoung's father returned after finding out the details of the murder.

"Jungkook, I think you should postpone your abdication, The press is already full of articles about Doyoung's allegations, besides, your position might help us...", he explained the current situation and its risks.

"What about him, he isn't guilty right?", he asked though he was sure his father wasn't a murderer Considering how many lies and screwups Doyoung had done, anything was possible.

"Of course not, this is a setup...", he replied immediately. It was a classical set-up. That night Doyoung was in the palace, and the cameras confirmed it. The fingerprints on the necklace were obvious because it belonged to him... It was clear that someone stole the necklace and put it in the poor girl's hand to lead the investigators to Doyoung...

"Then why is he not free yet?", he asked confused. Chaeyoung's father has the authority to get anyone out of detention, even a guilty person... so it seemed strange to him why he didn't do it for Doyoung.

"Nha, I just want him to feel in my daughter's shoes when he accused her of something she didn't do",

Jungkook noted not to piss off her father.
