Once I left Pete I drove home as fast as I could. I needed to leave, or at least do something. It's all fun and games until the devil himself kills you. I ran inside and up to my apartment. In the twenty seven years of life, I've never been more scared. When I made it to my room I quickly grabbed my bag from the hall closet packing what I could. I turned around and set the bag on the bed, noticing that my area rug was messed up. My eyes traveled to the floor and followed the small, muddy footprints. My other closet door was shut and I backed up. This can't be happening. I slowly stepped out of my room and backed up into the kitchen. There, I noticed more footprints. I reached for my keys but they flew off of my counter. I gasped and covered my mouth as I ran off into the hall, but the door slammed shut. I pulled and pulled but it didn't open.
"Fuck". I cried and put my back against the door.
Nobody was there but I knew what it was now. The lost souls showing me they are here and want things back to normal.
"Hello"? I called out.
Soft whispers were heard and I backed up against the door.
"Please, dont". I begged.
When the whispers got louder I felt myself get small. Sliding down the door and covered my ears. This can't be happening right now.
"Cover your tracks". I heard.
I looked up to the empty room and uncovered my ears.
"Hello"?
"Blood spilled, cover your tracks".
I shook my head, not understanding. Seconds later the room got quiet again. I stood up and held onto the door handle.
"Angel"?
I screamed. I turned to see Colson standing there.
"Kells". I spoke and backed up against the stove.
He looked pissed.
"What happened"? He asked amused.
I shook my head. He knew, he definitely knew.
"I do know and quite frankly after he told you not to think about it, you should have listened". He hissed and walked closer
I put my arms up as my shield. "Listen. I'm not brining it up. It was my fault, not Pete's." I begged and ran over behind the counter.
"That's not why I'm here. You're heart rate is what sent me here. I don't care about what Pete told you". He said.
I put my arms down slowly.
"You dont"? I asked.
He laughed. "No I do. Ill deal with him later. Why didn't his compulsion work"? He asked.
"His what"? I asked trying to catch my breath.
"He compelled you to forget what he told you. Why didn't it work"? He asked again.
I stepped back so I was now against my bedroom door. I didn't want to talk to him right now. I was to scared to do anything. Pete told me it was him I had to watch out for.
"I guess my head didn't want me to be compelled. I don't know".
He nodded and with each step he took toward me, I stepped closer to my room.
"Dont. Come with me". He spoke and I shook my head.
"No. I want as far away from you as possible". I whispered.
"Now is not the time. Get over here slowly". He spoke.
I seen his eyes looking behind me and I slowly turned around. Standing there was a man. The bald man from the bar. Garrett.
"Now why would you ruin the fun Kells. It was getting good". He laughed.
"Shes not the one Garrett. Shes nothing to you". Colson said as he walked closer.
I stayed still, frozen in fear. I never thought I would see a spirt, a lost soul standing behind me. His eyes were red, dark purple circles under his eyes.
"She knows Kells. When the other ones found out, you made sure to fix the problem, what makes her so different"? Garrett asked.
I felt Colson's hand grab my forearm as he stood behind me.
"I marked her Garrett. You can't touch her". Colson whispered.
Garrett's face turned to stone as he stared at his boss. He was angry.
"You said you would never mark another person. Ever. The more people you mark, the less we have to transfer our souls". Garrett hissed.
"You don't want her soul Garrett. It's not worth it. Just leave". Colson said, now standing infront of me.
I grabbed a hold of his jacket and dug my face into his back.
"Her soul is just as important. I'm a soul taker, you gave me the job. What good is it if I can't do my job"? He asked
"Because I'm ruler. You will not touch this soul". Colson growled.
His body felt hot under my hold but I kept quiet.
"Fine. Once you slip. She's mine". Garrett said.
The lights flickered a bit and the room got quiet again. Colson turned around and I ended up smacking him across his face.
"Angel". He said and I did it again.
He turned his head to the side and groaned.
"Get out of my building".
"You need to come with me. Once I leave, he'll come back". He said and turned his face back to me.
I went to hit him again but he grabbed my wrist. "Stop that".
"Let go of me". I said and started to panic.
"Pack a bag". He said and let go but I stepped back.
"Fuck that, fuck you. I would rather die then continue this bullshit".
Colson quickly covered my mouth and sighed. When the doorbell rang he groaned.
"Great". He mumbled and walked over to the door.
When he opened it to Pete i rolled my eyes.
"Hey, just doing my job".
"Both of you just get out".
Pete looked over at Colson then back to me.
"I would come with us. You're no longer safe here". He spoke.
"How am I no longer safe"? I asked.
"Because. Kells lied to him." Pete said
I looked over at Colson then back to Pete
"He lied? How"? I asked.
"When Garrett finds out that your not marked, he gonna kill you, not just take your soul".
My chest got heavy and I had a hard time breathing. So it all comes out now, im not marked, im basically nothing to Colson. Part of me felt relieved. When the room started to spin i grabbed a hold of the counter.
"Angel. We need to leave". Colson whispered.
His eyes were a light purple, his pupils big. I took a deep breath and soon was over his shoulder and before I knew it I was knocked out cold.
