"Sasuke, are you even listening ?" said Sakura as she snapped her fingers in front of his face.
Sasuke, who was leaning back and looking up at the sky, sat up staright and nodded his head. "Yeah." he said.
Sakura eyed him suspiciously but let it slide. "So, as I was saying, that pig Ino...." she continued.
Sasuke sighed inaudibly and let his mind wander again. He was skipping class, and Sakura happened to be skipping too so she just decided that they spend time together. It was pure coincidence, according to her.
As he was looking around, his eyes fell on a figure walking through the corridors on the first floor of the main school building. It was (Name). She was holding a pile of papers in her arms and walking steadily while being careful to not drop the pile. He assumed she was just helping a teacher.
Just then, another girl came walking from another side and while passing by (Name), she bumped into her. The girl didn't even bother to look back and continued walking. (Name) stumbled but did not fall. But her papers were all over the place. Sasuke saw how (Name) struggled to gather all the papers before they flew even farther. His heart raced as she leaned dangerously on the window to catch another sheet which was flying out. Sasuke felt his blood boiling at the sight. He had seen the girl who bumped into (Name) chuckle silently as she kept walking instead of lending a hand.
But then, he remembered. Wasn"t this something he himself had arranged ? Why was it bothering him, then ? He had used his reputation and connections, and had managed to create that situation without letting anyone know that he was behind everything.
But seeing it himself made him feel a pang in his heart which till now only pumped blood. He had never felt sorry for anyone, never felt affection or even guilt for his action, and that was for years. This feeling was foreign to him, which angered him even further.
He got up and started walking towards the gate.
"Sasuke, where are you going ?" said Sakura as she got up too and began to follow Sasuke.
"Don't" he said and held a hand in front of her, "follow me." he completed.
As he walked to the gate, he took out his phone and called for the car service. By the time he was at the gate, as expected, there was a car waiting for him. He sat inside and headed home.
He couldn't bear to be in to be in that form of hell called 'school' for another second. Sasuke convinced himself that it was because Sakura annoyed him, and not because of anything else.
Once he reached home, he went straight to his room and laid down on his bed with a sigh. He covered his eyes with his forearm and thought about everything.
Never before in his life had he doubted his decision. He never felt the need to, because whatever his decision was, it always turned out tl be the right one. It never crossed his mind that, for once, he could be wrong. Maybe there were other ways to solve this problem, other ways which he hadn't thought of.
"I told you to think about your decision again, little brother." said Itachi as he casually walked into the room.
Sasuke groaned and sat up. "If I had died right now because of a heart attack, then it would've been your fault." said Sasuke.
"You need to have a heart for that." said Itachi with a smile as he leaned against the doorframe.
"Shut up." said Sasuke. "What are you doing here ?" he asked.
"That is what I should be asking you." said Itachi. "What are you doing here ? You're supposed to be in school."
"Since when do you care ?" asked Sasuke. "And why are you not at work ?"
"I always did, Sasuke." Itachi smiled. "And the meeting got cancelled so I'm free for the day."
"Oh, lucky me." Sasuke rolled his eyes.
"I'll just ignore that comment." said Itachi and pulled a chair across Sasuke. "Now tell me why you are skipping school."
"That is none of your business." said Sasuke.
"Well, if you want me to call up school and tell them you got sick and left so that you can be excused from having to complete any assignments and homework which may be due tomorrow, then yes, it is my business." said Itachi.
Sasuke thought of the English assignment and Maths sums which he had to turn in the next day, and his determination to not tell Itachi anything faltered.
"I just couldn't bear to be in that hell anymore." he said.
"You know I'm not taking that as an answer." said Itachi as he leaned forward.
Sasuke groaned. "Well, Sakura was annoting me and I was already pissed--"
"Already pissed ? Over what ?" said Itachi with a small smirk which did not go unnoticed by Sasuke.
Itachi already knew what Sasuke's answer would be, but he still wanted to hear it from Sasuke's mouth.
"A girl was disturbing (Name)." said Sasuke, quickly and softly so that Itachi would not hear him, but Itachi did.
"You mean, maybe you started doubting yourself ?" said Itachi with a knowing smirk.
"Bullshit." said Sasuke, but in his heart, he knew that Itachi was right. As always.
Just then, Sasuke's phone started ringing.
"I guess that's my cue to leave." said Itachi as he got up. "I hope you think about it and do what should be done."
Before Sasuke could reply, Itachi left. Sasuke checked the caller ID and saw that it was Naruto calling him. He contemplated answering or ignoring it as his finger lingered over the green 'answer' button.
Sasuke groaned and tossed his phine away. He was not in mood for another person's problems at that time.
