Nine

"Hello, (Name). It's been a while since I last saw you." said Sasuke with a small smile as he walked up to (Name).

For once, it wasn't during the break and in the old Chemistry Lab. (Name) was out in the school campus, sitting on a bench under a tree and reading as it was her free period, and Sasuke had come there too, pretending as if it was his free period as well. He was actually skipping class only to have a chat with her. But, of course, he would never let her know that.

(Name) looked up at him and gave him a brief smile with a nod. He sat next to her and leaned back.

"What a surprise to see you here !" said Sasuke, in a hushed tone, of course.

"I do come here sometimes." said (Name), putting her book away as she thought it would be rude to continue reading.

Sasuke looked up at the tree. "Well, it is a nice spot. I never noticed it before." he said.

"But, what are you doing here ?" asked (Name).

"I was just passing, and I saw you. I thought it would be nice to have a small chat." said Sasuke, trying to sound as innocent as he could, and he probably did as well because (Name) did not smell anything fishy.

"I mean, aren't you supposed to be in class ?" asked (Name).

"No. We got a free period." said Sasuke.

(Name) nodded at that but said nothing. She had no idea what to say to him. Whenever he came to her - which was very often - he himself would start a conversation. She never could never find anything interesting which they had in common about which they could talk.

"I heard about what happened the other day." said Sasuke, carefully glancing at (Name) to see how she reacted.

But (Name) just frowned at him, having no idea what he was talking about.

"I mean, what happened with those guys." he added.

"Oh, that." said (Name), and scowled with disgust.

After waiting for another few seconds, Sasuke reached out and held (Name)'s hands in his, making the best concerned expression he could.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be there." he said, and to add more effect to it, he dropped his gaze to (Name)'s hands which he held in his own.

(Name) was surprised by Sasuke's actions. She blinked a few times before registering the situation.

"You don't have to apologize." she said quickly, pulling her hands back.

She could feel her face heat up, but she hoped it wasn't red enough for Sasuke to notice.

"Even those idiots reached there before me." said Sasuke, intensifying his act. "Had I known that would happen, I would have never left early."

"You left early that day ?" asked (Name), out of genuine curiosity.

"Uh, yes. I was actually feeling kind of unwell that day." lied Sasuke.

"Oh, then you shouldn't care about what happened at all !" said (Name). "How are you now ?"

"I felt better after a night's sleep." said Sasuke. "But that's enough about me. (Name), if those guys, or anybody for that matter, ever troubles you, you will come to me. I will take care of it." said Sasuke.

(Name) nodded, feeling herself blushing once again. Again, she felt that Sasuke was greatly misunderstood. He was such a caring person, at least to her. Maybe, he only showed that side to people close to him.

So, what did that make her ?

"But that was the only time it happened." said (Name). "I didn't know I attracted the attention of such people as well, let alone anybody at all."

But little did she know, that when she wasn't looking, the boys at school drooled over her. Sasuke knew that, but he did not wish to tell that to (Name). She would not believe him anyway.

"You're right, I guess." said Sasuke. "Why would anyone want to trouble someone like you ?"

She smiled at that. But, (Name) did not tell Sasuke about the little harrasment incidents and her encounters with his fan-girls. She did not want him worrying anymore about her. Already, she was involving him in matters which she should take care of by herself.

She was never going to let him know.

"That's our call." said Sasuke, as the bell went off. "I need to hurry."

He got up and started jogging towards the main school building. He turned and waved at (Name), who waved back, before turning around the corner and finally escaping her sight.

Some distance ahead, he stopped and leaned against the wall. He was sure (Name) wasn't anywhere close. Sasuke smirked to himself. How easily he had fooled the girl ! And (Name) had fallen for all his traps without him taking extra efforts.

Did she think Sasuke did not know about everything ?

(Name) was so very wrong about Sasuke, and she was going to realize it the hard way.
