I'VE LEARNED TO LOSE, YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO

THE NIGHT WAS young. The moon had just started to rise, giving light to my path as I walked down the less crowded streets of the entertainment district that I grew up in. I was given special permission by my adoptive mother to wander around for a bit, it was rare for her to do so due to my right schedule. Meeting clients nearly every week and having no time for myself or my kamuro.

There were not many people that stalked around, all supposedly in the busier areas where the professional entertainers were. I could count on my fingers how many people I've passed by, some were sober while some. . . I was a bit too hesitant to get near to. Through my years of being a highly respected courtesan, I have met many that were more vicious than a rabid dog.

If I had not been desperate for money then I would've denied some. I would've rejected several. But they proved themselves to be wealthy and powerful, though their personalities reeked of vileness. For the kindness my house had given me, even when I was a young boy, I wanted to repay them as much as I can. So I accepted the richest men that wanted me, though they had to meet me three times in total before having me. I am not a scrap of meat anyone could just take, after all.

My walk soon came to an end as I reached the place I usually stay in when I have the chance. It was just a small shed, no larger than a house made for one. The bench left outside was untouched by the rain, but it has been moved from its position. A passerby had most likely taken a seat for a while, waiting for the rain to stop, or maybe it was children playing around then accidentally moving it, or perhaps someone might've just needed a place to rest. Whichever it was, I appreciate that they had also cleaned up the small area outside.

However, as I walked closer to the shed, the foul smell of blood did not easily escape me. It was strong and seemed to be coming from inside.
