CHAPTER 14
❝ AND I'M ON MY OWN ❞
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ♡︎♡︎♡︎ MY HEART WAS racing, my feet led me to jumping from rooftop to rooftop, trying to avoid the sights of people from down below. All I could think about were my girls and just coming home to them. I easily forgot about the food I was going to buy for them at the small festival in the town near the forest we live in.
I couldn't stop myself, not as I leapt faster and faster, the cold wind of the night adding more to the discomfort I felt in my bones. Inwardly, I was shaking, so much that I was becoming unsteady with my lands, but I didn't care, as long as I get to my girls then I would worry about my nerves after.
There was a certain ringing in my ear that told me that something coming wasn't good, but I kept thinking that maybe it was just my guts, and maybe I was just paranoid since it's been so long since the last I've left the house on my own. I was terrified yet even with my trembling thoughts, I forced myself to keep leaping from treetop to treetop, wishing I could go faster.
My kimono swished about my legs as I leapt into the air, landing with a harsh thud on the clearing in front of my home.
The sudden onslaught of the pungent smell of blood shocked me, and it gave me all the more reasons to be terrified of what I would witness once I step inside the house. It was sickening, practically filling my senses as I took step after step, and the closer I got, the more I feared that I may no longer see my girls.
My breath got caught in my throat as I hesitantly placed a hand on the door, preparing myself to slide it open.
Hazuki, Hizuki. Please be alive. Please.
"Girls, I'm home!" I called out, in hopes that I'll get an answer, but there was none even after several seconds of waiting.
