5. Mark of Possession

~Athanasia POV~

After the situation on the bell tower, we had gotten ready because Dominique wanted to invite us somewhere. While I was getting dressed I noticed that my hairpin was not with my things. Please don't let me have lost it....

,,Tarte Tatin!'' Noé gasped excited. Dominique had taken us to the café where Luca and Jeanne were as well. Luca smiled ,,I didn't think he'd get this excited.'' ,,Noé has always been a sucker for Tarte Tatin.'' explained Dominique. ,,Thank you for letting me know, Dominique.'' ,,It's an honor to be of service.'' I had to smile when I saw her like Noé was happy. Like a child who experienced Christmas, Easter and birthday all at once. ,,Um, may I dig in?'' asked Noé. ,,Of course.'' nodded Luca. I also took a bite and I had to admit it wasn't that bad. A little too sweet for my taste, but that was not so bad. ,,It's so good! My teacher often brought Tarte Tatin home as a gift from trips to the human world. But I never imagined I'd have it in Altus Paris!'' Noé beamed. ,,They say a vampire who fancied it as much as you brought the recipe back from the human world.'' replied Luca. 

,,Thank you for taking me to such a magnificent restaurant, Luca.'' ,,No need to thank me. You came all this way to visit. Apologies for my uncle's absense.'' ,,It's quite all right. I'm glad we'll have plenty of time for a meeting tomorrow. I have lots of questions about what went on after the ball.'' Noé said somehow serious. ,,Noé. I'm really grateful for last night. Thanks to you, my life and the lives of many others vampires were saved.'' ,,No, I didn't do anything.'' ,,I must thank you as well, Noé. Athanasia, too. You protected Master Luca in my absence. I am truly grateful.'' said Jeanne and drew my attention to her. She didn't address the fact that she had a thirst for blood that night. Perhaps she has her reasons. Vanitas pushed his plate of Tarte Tatin in front of Noé, who twitched. ,,Actually... You have it all wrong. It was not I who ended the turmoil. It was Vanitas' power.'' 

Luca's facial expression then became almost annoyed and upset. ,,Of course, I'm aware of that. No curse-bearers had to be beheaded, and that is without a doubt thanks to him.'' Vanitas merely smirked smugly next to me with a fork in his mouth. ,,However, Vanitas! Before I convey my gratitude, I want you to apologize for the other day!'' ,,Apologize? Whatever for?'' Vanitas asked innocently. ,,The day we first met! You made Jeanne and Athanasia fight each other. And she's not even from here! You can start by apologizing for that.'' Luca said angrily and I froze. How did he know that? ,,My bad.'' Vanitas said half-heartedly and I sighed. ,,No, not like that!'' yelled Luca. ,,You're a real pain in the keister. To whom am I apologizing, anyway? To Jeanne, Athanasia or to you?'' ,,To Athanasia, of course.'' ,,I see. In that case, there is no need to apologize. Athanasia and I are in love with each other.'' Vanitas winked. ,,Save the sleep talking for when you're asleep.'' I said with a blank expression.

Vanitas wanted to talk further, but I beat him to it. ,,Luca, forgive my directness, but how do you know that I am not from here?'' ,,Well, Dominique had informed me. She had heard Noé confirm it.'' Right, Dominique came in a little while later at the count. ,,May I ask something now?'' ,,Of course.'' ,,Isn't it hard to find your way in a completely new world, and to be a vampire all of a sudden?'' ,,Not really. I didn't really feel any different than before and luckily after I woke up here I immediately met Noé, who has been helping me ever since," I answered with a smile.
