14. Queen of the Vampires

~Narrator POV~

Shocked, Vanitas and Athanasia watched as Naenia was forced into a physical form. Chloé began to strangle Neania and her painful screams seemed to go on forever. A shockwave emanated from Naenia, Athanasia and Vanitas were thrown back. The two of them crashed roughly into the bookshelf. ,,Vanitas! Athy! Are you alright?" yelled Noé worried, who had just arrived. ,,More or less..." replied Athanasia, rubbing her hurting head. In the corner of her eye, she saw that the brat Astolfo was also here, fighting a small automaton. Noé's gaze, on the other hand, landed on Naenia and Chloé. ,,Mademoiselle Chloé? Naenia?!'' ,,Don't... do this,' muttered Vanitas. ,,Vanitas...'' ,,Do not provoke Naenia anymore than this.'' Something seemed to be happening to Naenia as her screams started again.

,,Oh, the pain! It hurts so bad! It hurts!'' 

When Naenia's shell began to crack, Vanitas stood up abruptly. ,,Chloé! Release ger from bodily form! Don't make her remember who she really is! You won't be able to kill it!'' Naenia's shell broke completely, revealing a little girl with long golden hair covering her small body. An incredible power emanated from the little girl, which even affected Athanasia and made her tremble. Chloé was also affected and was unable to move. Naenia suddenly grabbed her and kissed her while forcing a black substance into Chloé's mouth. ,,Mademoiselle Chloé!" yelled Noé, ready to rush to her aid. But Vanitas immediately held him back. ,,No! She'll come after you, too!'' ,,Vanitas, what's happening? What happend to that shadow?" asked Athanasia, trying to suppress her trembling. 

,,That is Naenia, Death's Keeper. It is the malnomen of Queen Faustina, the first Vampire of the crimson moon.'' ,,Her Majesty, the Queen?'' asked Noé shocked. Chloé fell to the ground and writhed in pain. ,,This is bad. Her malady was forcibly manifested! She'll spiral out of control!'' Suddenly, the beast burst through the wall, ready to attack Naenia. But with nothing more than a wave of her hand, she fended the beast off. ,,Jean-Jacques!'' Jeanne now arrived in the hall and saw Chloé, who was still writhing in pain. ,,Chloé?'' A black shadow suddenly emanated from Chloé, enveloping the entire castle and its surroundings. The entire floor began to shake and the roof of the hall broke open. 

The wobbling seemed to have stopped the machine for the time being. ,,The engine halted! Naenia will be disembodied once more!'' Vanitas noticed. As soon as Vanitas had finished speaking, Naenia turned back into the black shadow and disappeared. Before it disappeared completely, however, it was as if Vanitas, Noé, Athanasia and everyone else were surrounded by shadows. To make matters worse, Vanitas fell backwards through the destroyed wall and fell. Noé immediately jumped after her, leaving the young Witch behind. ,,Noé! Vanitas!'' Athanasia immediately tried to follow but she was too shaky on her feet.

Vanitas and Noé, on the other hand, had fortunately landed safely on a broken section of the castle wall. ,,What the devil was that?'' asked Noé and looked up to the floating tower and then down to a little island where people from the village were standing. ,,Look!'' ,,The villagers of Saugues, no doubt.'' Vanitas said standing up. ,,Vanitas.'' ,,Curse that wretched Naenia. Why couldn't she just quietly disappear? She truly is rotten to the core. Listen to me, Noé. Chloè d'Apchier's malnomen creates a space that protects her. And as it spirals out of control, it corrupts an ever wider area, drawing in every living thing in it's path. It will devour everyone in Gévaudan of we don't do something.''
