8. Together... we can win!

~Athanasia POV~

,,Noé, fall back! Don't try to fight like that!'' ,,Huh? There us no way I'm leaving you two here!'' said Noé who stood up again. ,,You're in no shape to worry about us! You didn't heed my warning, you fool!'' yelled Vanitas. ,,Every time you open your mouth, it's impossible to follow. It's always the same old story with you, Vanitas!'' Are they serious right now? The two were arguing, despite the situation right now. ,,One moment. What did you just say?'' asked Roland and turned to us. Suddenly Roland stood in front of us and grabbed Vanitas' face through the bars. ,,Black hair and blue eyes. Dear Vanitas?'' ,,What?'' ,,You're the one they call Vanitas?!'' ,,What the--?! Yes, it's me!'' Vanitas shouted stressed, while I tried to pull him away from Roland. I had to admit Roland had quite a firm grip on Vanitas' face. 

As if this were not enough, he also embraced Vanitas. ,,Dear God! O Lord, I give thanks for Thy guiding hand! To think we'd meet so soon! Sp the rumors about you being used by vampires were true!'' ,,Huh?!'' ,,Did they coerce you into cooperating? Are they holding a loved one hostage?!'' ,,Get off me!'' Can't this guy Vanitas let go for once! ,,This poor boy was forced do dwell among the vampires and the Blue Moon Clan. What a pitiful creature.'' Suddenly Vanitas broke away so that I lost my balance and when I looked up I noticed that he had scratched Roland in the face. ,,You people will never change. You cast pity where it's unwanted. You don't realize you look down on others. Listen here! I choose my own path no matter what I do! I consort with vampires. I snuck into you lair. And I just raked you face. It was all of my own free will! You fools my be slaves to this god of yours, but not me!'' Vanitas clarified, but his voice sounded so full of hatred that it sent a shiver down my spine.

Now you would expect people who get yelled at with something like that to get angry, but all Roland did was cry while looking full of pity. ,,You poor thing.'' Speechless, Vanitas and I looked at Roland. This guy really didn't understand, did he? ,,O Lord, I beseech Thee! Have mercy upon him! Surely he knows not what he does.'' Suddenly he was right in front of us again. ,,Open you eyes, Dear Vanitas. The Word of God shall not reach you soul if you turn your back on His light!'' ,,Forget your god for now and listen to me!'' Vanitas shrieked. With a look of confidence, Roland took Vanitas' hands. ,,Look at me! I want you to know God's love through me!'' ,,Huh?'' ,,It's all right. There is nothing to fear. Though you have gone astray, the Lord will never abandon you! I shall not fail to save you from the vampires' evil clutches.'' ,,You're creeping me out!'' ,,Vanitas stay calm, it's no use,'' I tried, but Vanitas didn't seem to hear. 

Roland left us and drew his blade as he faced Noé. ,,Vanitas, we must hurry," I urged. ,,I know!" he grumbled. ,,Don't use that tone with me. I didn't do anything to you.'' Roland launched forward, straight at Noé. ,,Noé! Chasseurs are no mere humans! They use drugs to enhance their combat prowess!'' explained Vanitas quickly. ,,That explains it! You could have told me sooner!'' Noé replied while dodging Roland's attacks. Although Noé was able to dodge for the most part, my concern grew. ,,Where is that damn switch for the door?" I muttered and looked around. ,,I didn't see a lever on the wall out there.'' said Vanitas. Right, now that he says it, I haven't seen one either. ,,Athanasia, move aside.'' I did what Vanitas said and he used the wire of his dagger. Unfortunately, I didn't see where the wire flew. But at least the bars opened.

When Noé was electrified, my body moved on its own and I ran towards him followed by Vanitas. ,,Noé!'' While I was helping Noé up, I didn't notice that Roland was coming to attack us. But fortunately, Vanitas intervened, which caused Roland to redirect his attack to miss Vanitas. I took the chance and grabbed Roland by the collar and threw him against the nearest pillar. ,,Nobody hurts Noé, got it?!'' I said angrily. Someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me along.
