Harpreet had been right when he had said Jassi will come up with something. She had called first thing Friday morning to enquire about Abhay's health and then decided to have dinner at their place instead. So here she was with casseroles of food to last them at least four days.

"You did not have to make so much?" Amrit said wondering how long had Jassi been cooking. "Didn't Harpreet stop you?" she asked.

"If he had his way he wouldn't let me get up from the bed," Jassi said with a huff and Amrit resisted her smile. "You are supposed to laugh you do know that right?" she asked outright and Amrit was a little taken aback at her straightforwardness.

"I know," Amrit responded, "I am not just used to it much," she said.

"Why not?" Jassi asked.

Amrit refused to answer and just shrugged. She was still reluctant to open up to Jassi. She hadn't known the girl long and her distrusting nature refused to let her say much. Maybe a couple of more meetings and she will be able to be more comfortable. She didn't even talk much to Preeti or Kulraj anymore. She just couldn't. She sighed. There was a time when she was not shy of showing how she really felt or control what she said or how she behaved. She used to laugh and smile all day long without bothering what was happening around her or who felt what. But it had all changed. She had learnt her lesson the hard way. You could never trust another completely. Never. And you can never be stupid enough to believe that all was well around you because the moment you did that someone would sneak up on you and say boo.

"How is Abhay doing?" Jassi asked changing the topic as if she sensed Amrit's reluctance.

"He is doing fine actually," Amrit said, "I wasn't sure how bad the wound was but he seemed okay this morning and he hasn't had any painkillers all day," she said and smiled.

"You do look nice when you smile," Jassi said with a smile.

"Thanks," Amrit said consciously.

"Don't tell me Abhay didn't say that to you?" Jassi asked wide eyed.

"He didn't actually," Amrit said lightly, "but even if he had it would only have made me more conscious," she said.

"You are an odd one aren't you," Jassi said lightly, "but I like you so much better than Natasha any day," she said.

Amrit looked at Jassi curiously. She knew Natasha, Abhay's ex-wife. Interesting and strange. How long had Jassi known Abhay? Harpreet had been a friend for a long time that she knew. But yes it had been five years since Jassi had been married and so probably she knew Natasha when she had been married to Abhay. Should she feel strange? No. Why was Jassi comparing her to Natasha? Maybe she hadn't gelled well with the other girl. But Amrit felt odd talking about Abhay's ex-wife to Jassi but now that she was finding herself getting more comfortable with Abhay and her increasing attraction for him she was finding it hard to resist the temptation about wanting to know his past life.

"You were friends with her?" she asked carefully as she put the kebobs in a plate. Jassi had brought appetizers too.

"Huh," Jassi exclaimed, "you could be friends with her only if you suck up to her. And she could be friends with only one person," she said raising her index finger for emphasis, "herself."

Amrit paused. It reminded her of someone she already knew very well. But she didn't think too much and continued putting the juice in the glasses for them. The men were having whatever they wanted which was outside. They had decided to go with juice considering Jassi was pregnant. Though Abhay had offered to open a wine bottle for her she had refused citing she would give company to Jassi.

"Wow," Amrit said lightly, "she sounds interesting," she said.

"Interesting, my foot," Jassi said almost sounding angry, "I don't know what Abhay ever saw in that girl. She made his life miserable. Poor thing he was so hurt and in the hospital and all she could think about was her multi-millionaire father's birthday bash at the five star," she said and Amrit stared at her.
