Amrit had woken up on Tuesday morning feeling blue. She wasn't feeling well at all but she decided it was all because of the pressure she had gone through this past weekend. And with all the late nights and work she had done she was exhausted. So she decided to not take a bath early but later in the day. She made Abhay his breakfast but as she sat with him, like she did every morning she realized she didn't have the energy to even smile. Not that he noticed he was in a hurry as he had received some message from Harpreet and had to see him before he went for work. She waved him bye and crashed on the sofa. What was wrong with her? Why was she this tired? This out of energy? Maybe she was coming down with something. She didn't need this right now. But all of that was for later thought as she slept.
She woke up to hunger pangs. Going to the kitchen and making something for herself was such a chore she just sliced an apple and had it. But she couldn't finish the whole thing either. Her throat felt parched. Was she dehydrated? She wasn't sure so she drank a glass of water and it seemed to help her for now. Then she made herself go upstairs and that alone tired her so much she slept again. She woke up to find the sun was almost setting. What time was it? She looked at the bedside clock and realized it was almost six. How long had she been sleeping? Damn. Abhay would be home soon she hadn't even started cooking yet. She looked at herself in the mirror and shrieked. Her eyes were so red and her skin looked so pale even her hair was so messy. What the hell? She felt hot too. She needed to take that shower. Now. As fast as her lethargic feet could carry her she went to the washroom and took a bath. She should have felt refreshed but she didn't. In the same lethargic mode she wore her clothes at least she felt clean if nothing else and felt her elbow bump the soap case. As she massaged her elbow where it stung she was irritated that the soap had fallen out. She bent to pick it up but it slipped out of her hand. She moved again and this time she felt her foot slip out from under her. Apparently in her absent minded state she didn't see the soapy trail where she had kept her foot. She tried to get hold of her balance but she couldn't there was nothing in that tiny bathroom that she could have held onto and broken her fall. With a scream she hit her head against the nozzle of the tap as her foot twisted in an angle and the agonizing pain took her breath away. It took a couple of moments to realize what had just happened but the pain in her ankle and the hit her head had taken weren't letting her see anything clearly. As she tried to sit up on the wet floor she felt her head spin. She raised an arm to where she thought she had hit her head. And felt something sticky. Blood? She brought her hand down to check. Blood it was. Oh man! This was not good. She was all wet, her foot was screaming and now her head was all sticky with blood. Was there no end to this really bad day? She breathed a little and decided since she was all alone she should think through this rationally. First, she had to get out of here.
With that thought she pushed herself up and stood straight for a few seconds as she felt dizzy all over again. Then she slowly moved out of the bathroom. It took her ages to get to the door alone. The pain was unbearable and she was perspiring with the effort she was putting.
Only if she had known what she would find upon opening it she would have preferred to faint inside than face the most embarrassing moment of her life. She opened the door to see Abhay come up the stairs and as their gazes met she saw a look of horror come over his face and she was sure it mirrored the expression on hers only she had it for a different reason.
