Amrit sat late into the night gazing out the window of her room at the lawns below. The house was quiet now with everyone tired and gone off to sleep. The lights were still on outside. The long strings they had hung for decoration. Amrit turned her gaze towards the sleeping form of her husband. He had been tired. Poor thing. He had gone through the roller coaster ride with her today and without a complaint. He wasn't disgusted with how her family operated instead he had been understanding blaming things on just being human. She smiled faintly.

They had slept somewhere after midnight and it was almost close to dawn now. She had woken up a while back and then slowly slid out of the bed making sure she didn't disturb Abhay. He was a beautiful human being. He constantly warned her that he was not above anybody and that he had his share of weaknesses too but she had yet to see any. He had stood by her like a solid rock and she wondered if anybody else would have been able to do the same. Did God really make men like him or was he the only master piece? And it was her luck she had landed him. She couldn't help but think why Natasha had left him. She had to be the biggest idiot on earth. Though she had scarred him bad Amrit found he didn't give in much to his scars. Or maybe he did but he didn't let them affect his thinking much. But how about his feelings? How did he feel about her? Did he like her? Hadn't she wondered about something similar a few days back? His constant teasing, his closeness, his warmth was affecting her much more than it had been before. And that shifted her thoughts from him to her.

How did she feel about him after today? She thought about it. She felt closer to him. She liked him that much she had admitted to herself before, today sitting here watching him sleep she felt more than just liking. She felt she was falling for him. She smiled at that. She wasn't sure what that meant in terms of her relationship with him in the future but for now it felt good. She felt a strange excitement unfold itself inside her. An unseen force binding her to him. She was happy and for the first time in ages she knew what that meant. She had been content with what she had but she found herself getting greedy now. How would he take this shift of emotions inside her? Should she let him know how she had started feeling towards him? Maybe it was too early. Maybe he wasn't ready. At least not yet. Will he be able to love her too? She frowned at that. He cared, she knew that. He liked her, he had admitted to that. And he understood her, she had seen that. But love was a very different feeling. He had loved Natasha, she thought not liking that thought one bit but that was in the past. Did he still love her? No. Because he had said as much. Then where was the problem? The problem lay with him. Those scars he carried deep inside him. The ones he didn't let anybody see. Would she be able to heal him? Would those scars fade away? Will he be able to love her then? Or will she have to live with a one sided love all her life? Damn. The questions were confusing her. Now that she was free to think she couldn't think about anything else.

She had no doubt she would be head over heels if she had to stay with him for a few more days like she had an option she was married to the man. Abhay stirred in his sleep and she quickly went over to the bed and slid back inside. He was a light sleeper normally but it seemed he was overly tired because he didn't open his eyes to see who was getting in bed with him. She smiled slowly. As she snuggled closer to feel his warmth he rolled over and put his arm across her belly holding her still. She almost giggled. The caught herself just in time. It sure felt nice to be held by him. As she thought about where her relationship would go from here sleep caught up with her slowly dulling her senses to everything but the man who slept next to her. And of course, his heavy arm holding her as if she was precious to him. As if he could never let go. And she liked that thought as she fell into deep slumber with a smile on her face.

Monday was a busy day both for Abhay and Amrit. They had returned in the morning from Ambala starting really early as Abhay had to get to work. He had dropped Amrit at the house, changed into his uniform and rushed. She had brought breakfast with her so he could eat on their way home. They had chatted about Kulraj's engagement last evening. It had been fun. Everything had gone well and Nimmi seemed to have been the happiest. Kulraj had looked very pretty in her pink salwar kameez with a heavy embroidered dupatta. And it seemed everyone had already forgotten about the previous day's episode. Abhay had stayed by her side making sure she was doing fine. Amrit's in laws had attended the function too and she had made sure they were comfortable. If they knew about what had happened the day before they never asked her a thing and she had been glad. They were still in Ambala and would be leaving for Delhi in the afternoon.

Simrit had shown up too after being cooped up in her room for the past day or so. Amrit had tensed a little, wondering what she would do or say but then it seemed she had been in a reflective mood. Though Amrit was not sure about it. It could have been a pretense. Maybe after the confrontation with her mother and the rebuke she had received from others including her husband had made her cautious. But she hadn't apologized. Not that Amrit had been expecting it. That would be some day when Simrit Khullar apologized to anybody. All she had said to Amrit was that just because Roop had decided to stand for what she thought was right did not mean she was going to let her be but she was, for now because of Kulraj. Amrit hadn't bought the Kulraj excuse either. She knew very well that even to accept defeat even for a little time was hard for Simrit and this was the best she would ever say. But Amrit had let it be. She had just nodded and walked off.

In all Amrit had had a blast. And with Abhay there she couldn't help but have fun. Though he had teased her about it all the way to Pathankot.

Amrit felt tired after all the emotional upheaval, excitement and enjoyment of the past three days. But she decided to not take a nap. Every time she slept in the afternoon her sleep at night was disturbed. She decided to go for a walk instead. It was a nice afternoon weather. She sat in the park for a while reading a book then came home and cooked dinner. She even called up Jassi to find out how she was doing. She had received her appointment letter at the college in the evening mail and though she had been surprised at such a fast response she refused to ponder too much over it. She had already known that she would get the job best part was it was a permanent position. Later when Abhay came home she shared the good news with him and he had congratulated her. They had gone for an evening stroll after dinner and Amrit had shared more of her childhood details with him. He had listened patiently asking the right questions, giving correct advice and Amrit found herself falling more for him with every passing second. She hoped things were going to look up for her from now.

Only she didn't know a storm was coming her way soon threatening to destroy her newfound peace and happiness. Would she be able to withstand it or would she blow away like a fallen leaf?
