Ch.9 Family Matters

In the forest Merrick makes his way down the path he looks around he doesn't see his sister anywhere he continues down the path and comes to a stop, looks around shaking his head letting out a sigh 

" Took you long enough"

Merrick turns hearing the voice behind him he sees Morgan leaning against a tree arms crossed looking disappointed she pushes off the tree walking up to him 

" Hello Merrick"

" Morgan, what's so important that you wanted to talk about"

" It's Alex"

" What about her?"

" I ran into her at Willie's Roadhouse I guess you can say we had a heart to heart"

" Is she alright?"

"Merrick she's on the verge of giving up on finding you"

" What do you mean?"

" She's tired of trying to figure out who you are, she told me the trail is growing colder everyday Merrick she needs to know"

" She will"

" When?"

" In time"

" What's so important other than your own daughter that you can't go to her now?"

" It's complicated the past twenty years have been rough on me alright"

" I know things haven't been easy for you, but you have to let go of the past and think about your future"

" How can I Morgan, you don't know what I've been through"

" So, this is what you've been doing for the past twenty years wallowing in self-pity this isn't like you Merrick I know we haven't talked much since Alex was born what happened?"

" I don't want to talk about it"

Merrick turns and begins to walk away Morgan lets out a huff, she crosses her arms and shakes her head 

" Is this what Aleu would have wanted?"

Merrick freezes when he hears his late wife's name he balls his fists, he turns giving his sister a  glare he shakes his head then points at her

" Don't you dare bring Aleu into this"

" Too bad I just did, and you know she wouldn't have wanted this"

" I was told to protect Alex and that's what I'm doing"

" By hiding you call that protecting her if she was my daughter-"

" Which she isn't, you don't understand Morgan"

" I know what happened Merrick, the fire, Aleu, everything. Why didn't you call we would have help you and for crying out loud if it wasn't for me Alex would be gone"

" What do you mean?"

" While you were wallowing in self-pity Zen-Aku attacked her luckily for me I was able to fight him off and take her to the Animarium so she could be healed, he knows Merrick he wants revenge on you, you need to do something before it's too late, Merrick she's your daughter if you don't do something she'll give up on you for good do you really want that?"

Merrick looks down shaking his head 

" What do I do Morgan, its been so long I don't know what to do"

Morgan goes up to  Merrick putting a hand on his shoulder 

" Be the father she needs show her that you do care I know this is going to be tough for you I know she'll have a hard time coping with everything don't rush things get to know her, relationships take time to form she needs to know that her dad is still here. I know you'll figure something out"

" Thanks Morgan"

Morgan gives Merrick's shoulder a small squeeze she turns to leave Merrick watches his sister as she disappears down the hill he lets out a sigh then looks up.

" What am I going to do Aleu? Zen-Aku is after our daughter and I've been doing nothing to help her what kind of a father am I?" 

Alex's POV 

I sit by the lake taking it easy a small breeze blows through I close my eyes taking a deep breath, just then the breeze changes something isn't right I jump out of the way just as an energy wave hits where I was sitting I look up Zen-Aku is walking towards me 

" You again, what do you want?"

" I'm here to finish what I started to destroy you"

" Well good luck I won't go down that easily like last time"

" Don't be so sure"

I open the lunar caller Zen-Aku takes a step back appalled he points at me

" Where did you get that?"

" Doesn't matter where I got it all that matters is that I'm going to take you down once and for all, wild access! Howling Wolf!"

" Let's see if you're as strong as your father"

" Lunar cue, saber mode"

I charge at Zen-Aku swinging the lunar cue he blocks my attack his yellow eyes bore into mine he lets out a low growl 

" You may wear your father's suit but that doesn't mean anything to me I will destroy you"

I break away from Zen-Aku striking him he stumbles backwards

" Crescent blade, crescent wave"

Zen-Aku swings his crescent blade sending powerful energy strikes hitting Alex she falls back hitting the ground hard 

" I won't let you win, never give up"

Zen-Aku and I continue to duel I manage to strike him a few times but he still has the upper hand he strikes me with the crescent blade I hit the ground hard Zen-Aku walks up to me pointing the crescent blade at my neck

" I'll admit you put up a good fight but you're still too weak"

" I won't let you win"

I swing the lunar cue striking Zen-Aku I get up and take off down river Zen-Aku gives chase
