Miles's POV

'Ayy, lil' Metro on that beat

'Hummingbird, summ...'
'Miles.'
'Has it brought my life back?'
'Miles?'
'Hangin' in the baaalance,'
'Has...uhmmm,'
'MILES!'

'Aughh!' I started and fell off my chair, hitting my head.
My mum opened the door and looked at me with a wtf are you doing face.
Well, she wasn't wrong in her reasoning, I guess.
My suitcase lay open and half-packed next to my bed, with unironed shirts and creased trousers lying haphazardly inside. My slightly clean socks were lying half-in, half-out of the suitcase, and not a single tie or pair of underwear was to be seen. The rest of my clean clothes were strewn across the floor, with the majority spilling out of a white laundry basket, which had been knocked over.

I flashed a nervous grin at my mom as I stood up, brushing myself off. She continued to glare at me with her lips pressed together and her arms firmly folded.
'Buenos dias, mami!' I said, smiling timidly.
She leaned against the doorway and gave me a once-over.
I was still in my pajamas.
Oops.

She glared at me for a few more seconds, then stood up and walked into my room, muttering something in Spanish under her breath. She pushed other garments out of her way using her foot as she entered.
'Buenos dias, he says! No, it is not a good morning, Miles, because I am still telling you to pack your things and get ready for school after a whole year at Brooklyn Visions!' She exclaimed, throwing her hands up in the air. I grimaced as she carried on with her speech.

'I shouldn't have to tell you this anymore - you're 15 years old now! You need to pull yourself together, Miles,' she said, more gently.

'Lo siento, Mami. It won't happen again - promise.' I said, putting my hands on her shoulders.

'That's what you said last week,' she sighed, turning around.

'Just...get ready. I want you out of your room by 7:45, and not a minute more, or your father will leave you!' She said the last part over her shoulder as she walked down the stairs.

'Ok,' I yelled back, running into the bathroom. I stopped halfway there as her words began to sink in. 'Wait, what?'

I ran into the bathroom and switched on the water. The shower spurted to life, and I let it run for two minutes as I brushed my teeth furiously. I had to hurry. I stepped into the now-heated shower and cleaned myself up for a bit before stepping out again. I looked into the foggy mirror and wiped it so I could see myself.

(yada yada yada, I ain't writing all that down)

I tugged on my tie and grabbed my suitcase as well as my bookbag before stepping out and jogging down the stairs. I was clean, my hair was freshly detangled, and my uniform was neat. I walked into the kitchen and put two slices of bread in the toaster.

'Miles, good job. Right on time. Do you have everything?' my mum asked. She was now wearing her nurse's outfit, and a stethoscope was around her neck.

'I...think so?' I said, still watching the toaster. I was hungry, man. It finally came out of the toaster, and I buttered it. I placed it in my mouth and began walking to the door.

'If you forget anything, you're gonna have to wait until Saturday to get it back,' Mom warned as she opened the door. Her eyes opened wide and a big smile flashed across her face as she looked out. 'Well, hello...'

Her voice was drowned out by my Dad, who walked into the room. He was already dressed in his police uniform. and his cap was on his head. He had already put on his sunglasses and seemed to be in a really good mood, for some reason. He was almost never smiling in the mornings.

'Miles, we gotta go. I'm going to drop you off today,' my dad said. I hitched my breath and slowly turned around. Dammit, why now?

Look, I love my dad and all, but...come on. I remember the last time I let him drop me off. And it's something I'm still living down right now. And besides, in the nicest way possible, I don't want my dad dropping me off. Maybe Mom, but...right now is not a good time for me.

Especially since I can walk with her again.

I sighed.

'Uh, Dad? I kind of, maybe, sort of already promised Gwen I'd walk with her...' I squeezed my eyes shut and winced. This was gonna hurt.

I slightly opened one eye to see Dad looking at me, surprised.

'Oh...well...okay, then.' He breathed out and smacked his lips together. I could literally see the hurt in his eyes. I had to make it up to him.

'Uh, well, we can go together another time? Wh-whenever you're free, I mean,' I stuttered anxiously.

He pressed his lips together briefly and didn't meet my eyes.

'It's...fine, Miles. Just tell your little friend I said hi,'

'Well, hello then, Mr Morales.'

I whipped around to see Gwen standing at the door, smiling brightly.

'Gwen!' I exclaimed, rushing over to her.

'Hey, Miles,' She smiled at me, that gap between her teeth showing. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. She was so beautiful.

I know it had only been two weeks since I last saw her, but damn, it felt like two years.

I'm downbad, aren't I?

'Miles?' She asked, snapping me out of it.

'Uhhhhh...yeah?'

'Let's go.'

My parents exchanged a look I couldn't quite read.

Outside

'Adiós, mijo,' Mom said, kissing me all over my face.

'Mom...stop,' I said, my voice muffled. This is embarrassing.

'I love you, Miles.' She held my face softly and smiled at me, gently caressing my cheek.

'Love you too, Mom,' I said, hugging her briefly and running down the stairs.

'And good luck with your friend!' She shouted over.

'Wh-Mom!'

I looked to my left and saw Gwen barely stifling her giggles behind her hand.

I frowned. 'It's not funny,' I pouted.

Gwen burst into laughter at that. She held her stomach and put her hand on my shoulder for support as she laughed.

'Oh, Miles,' She said between laughs. 'But it is,'

A/N: Hello everyone!

If you're new here, welcome!

If you're a returning reader, thank you.

I just wanted to start by thanking you all for over 100 reads! I did not expect to get so many so fast. And thank you to the people who voted for this story! I really appreciate it.

So I have come to realize that there is a bit of confusion about the story and what it's going to be like. It's going to be different from a lot of the usual tropes that are used for stories.

In this universe, there will be two spiders in one dimension, which will be Gwen and Miles as Spider-Man and Spider-Woman. I will also be using a mixture of elements from the first movie, like the Collider and the Prowler. (The collider story won't be the same, though; I promise). And yes, I know I am breaking every rule in the book about the Multiverse by having two spiders in one dimension, but we don't need to worry about that for now.

This will also be a two-part series, so there will be Book 1 and Book 2. This is a pretty recent decision on my end, as I only just realized that all my ideas won't fit in one book.

Anyway, I've bored you all enough with this lengthy author's note, so goodbye for now!

If there is anything I could improve on, please tell me!

Signing off for now <3
